I'm a bit picky when it comes to fabrics. I'm also not a particularly cold person. For this reason I usually don't wear winter hats or scarves but I took a chance on this because I do get cold shoveling snow & sledding. This was exactly what I was looking for. The interior fabric is a soft fleece and the exterior is a very soft and flexible almost spandex feeling cotton material. I like that it fits like a hood and not a winter hat but it does have drawstrings so you can pull it closed like a hoodie. The hood alone is solid. The face covering is a little thinner than the hood which is good, but what I really like is the part over the mouth has a breathable mesh that makes it more comfortable to wear. You can also pull it down if you just want it around your neck. When it's up you can either hook it around your ears like a mask or just pull it up and leave it loose. If I have any complaint it's that it fits a bit bulky and big because the shoulder collar part comes down so far and wide BUT I think it has to fit that way. If you took that part under your coat it's not noticeable and the extra size keeps it in place and from slipping around as you pull it up and down from your face and head. It's when it's over the coat that it looks a little weird because of the size, but honestly if you're out shoveling your driveway at 7am ...who cares? Overall I'm impressed with this. I was half expecting to pass this off to my perpetually freezing wife, but this may stay in my coat pocket all winter (it'll be a bit bulky, but yes it can be rolled up to fit in a pocket like a normal winter hat).
