A ****ing Pencil
John Wick started when a team of professional stuntmen decided they wanted to make a movie featuring the absolute best physical stunts ever filmed. They got Keanu Reeves to play the star role, and Keanu spent months on gun ranges and in martial arts classes making sure he could look completely authentic and perform many of his own stunts. The result? John Wick. It's great. The films: You can summarize all the movies at once. Imagine an average revenge movie. Something traumatic happens to a guy, and the guy has to get revenge on the mob who perpetrated the crime. You've seen this movie before. But what if the guy wasn't just a guy? What if some punk criminal had accidentally screwed up and attacked the greatest hitman to have ever live? What if the mafia calls the man Baba Yaga ("The Boogeyman") because he has an almost supernatural ability to kill? What if the man belonged to a secret society, and the more we learn about him the more we get clues into the international team of assassins he retired from? What if all of this was performed by the best stuntmen in the business, with an A-list crew of actors, so the whole film is incredibly visceral and feels real? John Wick is awesome, and you will end up quoting it with your friends. If you love action movies, and cheesy 80's movies like Schwarzenegger and Van Damme with cheesy one-liners, this movie was made especially for you. It's fun, it's action-packed, it was made with love. Everyone should see this movie, so long as you appreciate violence in film. The discs: 6 discs, 3 Blu-Ray and 3 DVD. The only real advantages on the Blu-Ray are 1080p picture versus 480p on the DVD. For people who want compatibility for movie nights for friends, this is great to have. There's probably some special features, but I don't care. The digital downloads: I hate how slapdash companies are about digital downloads. It can be a bit of a hassle getting the codes to work. Follow the instructions given (a website for one, an app for the other) and after some finagling I was able to redeem both codes onto my Google Play account. I'm sure options will vary based on when you see this, so best of luck to you. I had to redeem the code for John Wick 3 twice before it worked correctly. Even then they movies don't show in my library, I have to scroll around my main screen to find them. Whatever. I mostly only care about the discs. I just wish companies would get their act together here. Overall: It's the John Wick trilogy, on both Blu-Ray and DVD. And if you have some tech savvy, you can even get digital downloads out of it.
