JOOFO Wood Torchiere Floor Lamp Super Bright Stepless Dimmable LED Uplight Standing Lamp with Remote Adjustable Color Temperature

BACKGROUND I own six other Joofo laps similar to this but with ¾-inch enameled-steel poles. I wanted another lamp for an area where we do our reading but I wanted one in brown, which wasn’t a color offered with the steel-pole lamps. We went without a lamp there for probably three months before breaking down and ordering a seventh steel-poled lamp in white, which would at least match the ceiling color. THE VERY NEXT DAY this wood Joofo lamp appeared in my recommendations. But I hesitated about ordering it. Our other Joofo laps are 69 inches (175 cm) tall, but the measurements on this item’s Amazon product page showed it being only 59.5 inches (5 feet, 151 cm) tall. That would mean we’d be looking down onto a large, bright lighting surface when we walked by it as opposed to having a smaller-area oblique view of the top of our other lamps. In addition, the product page had absolutely no information about its brightness, and it mentioned a “reading mode”, which wasn’t a good sign. I was worried that it would be dimmer than our other lamps, which would make it too dim for where we needed the light. I finally decided to order it and switch places with another lamp if it turned out to be too dim and too short. DESCRIPTION AND ASSEMBLY A photo shows the parts arrayed in the box. After removing them, the Styrofoam shell needs to be removed to expose the weighted lamp base underneath. Another photo shows the parts unwrapped and laid out on the floor. A slim booklet is included that shows an assembly diagram and providing brief instructions for re-pairing the remote, if that should be necessary. The first assembly step should be to screw together the four wood sections and the lower brass section that’s connected to the foot switch. It’s not possible to make a mistake here - it can only be done one way because of the 120v wire running through the lamp sections. After the four wooden pole sections and the bottom brass section are screwed together they form a single open tube that contains that wire. When you screw on the top brass tube with the attached LED lighting head it will introduce six 360° twists in the wire that will distribute themselves along the almost six feet of wire in the central tube. If you were an engineer and obsessive about silly things like those twists, before screwing on the upper brass tube you *could* rotate the lighting head six turns counterclockwise before you screwed that upper section clockwise onto the lower sections. Then after connecting the top section there would be no twists in the wire between the top and the bottom of the lamp. I’m not saying I did that; I’m just saying that some obsessive person *might* choose to do that! After all the upper sections are assembled lift the lower section of the assembled pole off the floor and screw the weighted base onto it. OBSERVATIONS * The first thing I noticed after assembling the lamp was that it was exactly the same height as my other Joofo lamps. The dimensioned diagram on the Amazon product page is wrong. The height isn’t 59.5 inches – it’s 69 inches! Joofo is denying itself some sales to potential buyers who are mistakenly believing that this lamp is too short for their needs. And they are disappointing buyers who need a 60-inch-tall lamp and get one that’s nine inches taller. * The second thing I noticed is how much more attractive the real-wood pole is than the painted steel poles on my other lamps. I’ve included a photo of a wooden section, which, by the way, is 1.2 inches (3 cm) in diameter. That beautiful wood turns a spare, utilitarian design into an attractive and decorative piece. I’ve included another photo showing the lamp in our room. * Contrary to my worries about whether this lamp would be bright enough, I found that it’s substantially brighter than my other Joofo lamps. Directed onto the ceiling, it adequately lights up half of the 14x12.5-foot room it’s in. * This lamp has a better remote than other Joofo lamps, allowing you to go up or down in color temperature without forcing you to circle around through a rota of color temperatures. It also has buttons for a reading mode and a night-light mode. * The manual mentions that the lamp has Bluetooth connectivity and can be controlled by the Hxlight app, although I don’t need this feature and haven’t tested it. PRICE The price at the time of this review is the same as the price for the standard Joofo pole lamps, which lack the advanced remote, app controllability and are far less decorative and attractive. Consequently I consider this lamp to be great value for money. CONCLUSIONS I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about this lamp. It’s bright, it’s attractive, it’s tall enough and it has some advanced features. Although I got it at no cost through the Amazon Vine program in return for my honest review, I would have been happy to pay its current price. Love the light itself. The different tones and brightness levels are fantastic. I’m a bit disappointed that I couldn’t get the app to work, but it seems like that’s normal which is unfortunate because that was a selling point. Summary: This lamp feels noticeably higher quality than similar models I’ve purchased in the past. Setup was quick, the controls are intuitive, and the light performs exactly as described with adjustable brightness and color temperature. The upward, diffused light is especially comfortable if you are sensitive to harsh lighting. Pros: • The build quality is noticeably better than a similar lamp I own that cost about $35. This one looks more polished and does not feel cheap. • The adjustable brightness and color temperature work exactly as listed. • Setup is very quick and intuitive. • The remote works reliably and responds as expected. • The instructions include a helpful note that says, “Tips: the lamp base is under the styrofoam box.” I initially wondered where the base was, and that note immediately answered the question. It is a small detail, but it shows the company clearly thought about how customers would experience the setup process. • Batteries for the remote are included, which is a thoughtful and convenient touch. • The lamp arrived in perfect condition with no scratches or cosmetic issues. • The diffused, upward-facing light creates a soft glow, which is great if you are photosensitive or prefer less direct lighting. • The metal parts arrive with a protective oil coating to prevent damage during shipping. Cons: • More of an “FYI” than a con, the protective oil on the metal can feel a little noticeable at first. However, it wipes off easily with a paper towel, water, and a small drop of dish soap. Since this protects the lamp during shipping, I don’t think this warrants removing a star. Would I Recommend It to a Friend? Yes. The lamp looks classy and well made. The higher price compared to cheaper versions is reflected in the materials and overall construction. Read more
