The JVC VHS/DVD player is still a necessity- we still do have VHS and can get them cheaply- quality is less reliable than a DVD but great for those who have an old collection in their homes. The player runs smoothly, has well-made components, and delivers at optimum. I like to record things on VHS tapes TV as DVD player usually do not have recording capacity. I had been hunting for a great price, and at $70, this was it- great quality, great price, and great reliability. I have owned JVC electronic items and they are built to last. I am hoping that this will be the last VHS player that I will own. I am pretty sure even when VHS goes entirely out, I will be using the DVD component. THe only things is that the unit is bulky so you need more shelf space, but then, VHS tapes are big and bulky so there is not much choice there. Overall, I think this is the best buy. Read more

This is a very easy to use vcr-dvd. The remote control is lightweight and quite compact, though not too tough to manage the buttons. I can now use it "in the dark". It is easy to record using the 3 plugs directly fron the cable box. The only limitation is lack of search ability in vcr mode. Read more

I bought this product in September (made that BIG mistake of not noticing stars count and reading reviews first) because I had a JVC TV that had worked well for decades. The DVD side was only display black and white image by November. Still under warrant, but JVC responded to my first inquiry with auto-email, but not my second when they did not follow through. Emailed the seller buy.com and they also responded the first time and then went quiet too. Wrote again and they let me know they were not able to negotiate a way forward with JVC and offered me an RMA and refund option, which I am taking. (thank you buy.com!) I will be VERY careful to CHECK THE STARS count and read reviews of electronics before purchasing products in the future. Read more

Great machine. I bought the same one several years ago and my boss (wife) said we needed a second one for another room. It's easy to use and was delivered quickly as advertised. Read more

Ok so who uses vhs tapes anymore? Well back in the 1980's i thought this would be my library. Now it is nostalgic nothing more. I advanced to dvd's which this also plays well. Now DVD's seem to have a short life maybe 5 years? VHS tapes still play. Hmmm. Ok time to go digital. But i still want to know that i can play the many hundreds of VHS tapes and DVD's i have even if i hardly use them. Thenks Read more
