JVC Marshmallow Memory Foam Earbud

For over a decade, these have been the only headphones/earbuds that I use. The marshmallow inserts are so comfortable and very easy to clean. In the package you receive a bonus pair of the marshmallows in the event you need to switch them out. The sound quality is great as well. With care, I'm able to get many months of use. I prefer this particular style without the attached mic, but unfortunately these are becoming harder to find which I think is making the price go up over time (I miss when these used to be sold in stores). Very comfy - ok sound

These are ok ear buds. I bought them because I like to fall asleep to music and my V-moda's were getting beat up. Also, the metal housing on the VModa's were kind of uncomfortable. These JVC's are pretty nice. They are definitely more comfortable and since they are very inexpensive, I don't care if they eventually break. The sound is just ok. If you make sure they are sealed well in your ear then they will be fine. I wouldn't choose them for everyday listening but they are definitely fine for music to fall asleep to. I have found I have to raise the volume on my ipod to get the same sound level as with my V-Moda's but those were 50 bucks so it's not a fair comparison. I am definitely keeping these and have switched to them for my bedtime music! Read more

Awesome Earbuds

These earbuds work perfectly with my Roku, as I wanted. They are very comfortable in my ears! Just what I expected. Sound is beautiful! But JVC should do something about the packaging. So very hard to get open, plastic is very sharp! The packaging would be awesome to hold a code for a warhead!! No stars for packaging!! Read more

Best wired earphones for price

These are the most comfortable earphones my wife and I have ever bought. It feels like they're becoming harder and harder to get a new pair of, so hopefully JVC continues with the "marshmallow" brand. The marshmallow tips are very comfortable and don't hurt our ears even after hours and hours of use like other earbuds. They also don't have that "underwater" feeling you get with silicone tips. The music quality is good, not too much bass. Many people will talk about how great headphones are but trying to lay in bed with headphones on while tossing and turning, or wearing them for 6+ hours, can get uncomfortable in a hurry. These work perfectly for us, but you do get what you pay for. Depending on how "rough" you are with these, they can last from approximately 3-6 months. When I used to take them to the gym every day, keeping my phone in my pocket would cause the cord to tug and bend, which caused them to break faster, usually after a couple months. Always in one ear at first the sound would just go out, no visible damage to the cord. Using them exclusively at home, I've had them last about 5-6 months without needing a replacement. For this price, I think that's a great value, but your mileage may vary. Read more

If you've bought these before, beware that there are some unfortunate changes to this updated model

I have been buying JVC Marshmallow earbuds for a few years now. I have smaller ears, so most in-ear buds cause pain after less than an hour of wear which is a common occurrence as I work at a desk. These headphones were perfect because they are inexpensive, have a very acceptable sound quality for the price, and fit nicely while not hurting my ears even with multiple hours of use. The biggest complaint I had before about them is their longevity, as I've purchased about 5 pair in the last 3 years since discovering them; I am, however, quite rough on headphones and use them for hundreds and hundreds of hours a year so these being under $10 a pair (before the update), I was fine with the average ~10 months of use I got. However, I just recently bought the updated model after my last pair lost sound in the right bud after about 14 months of heavy use, and I am fairly disappointed in them compared to previous models. The first thing I noticed was that the price had gone up a few dollars (which is understandable, things change) and the pricing was wildly different based on color of the items. When the package arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the earbuds themselves seemed to be higher quality. The shape is more pleasing to the eye, the plastic body of the buds seem a bit nicer, and the "L" & "R" markings are now engraved instead of embossed (previously the markings would wear off after a few months of use, another minor annoyance that was never a major problem for me considering the price point). The next thing I noticed was that the cable seems to be slightly lower quality of rubber casing, a small disappointment but a frustrating one considering I was paying about 25% more for these than before. My biggest gripe about the updated model, however, is something that took me going through my normal routine to notice. Whereas the previous models (again priced lower and with a better quality cable housing) had about a 5 foot cable, these new ones are a measly 3 feet. While that seems to suffice for walking with my phone in my pocket and earbuds in, I have already noticed that movement at my desk is severely limited with the headphones in. I am not sure yet if I'll abandon the Marshmallow line in search of an alternative, but I can say it's definitely a possibility at this point. I would be happy to pay up to $15 for a pair with the newer buds with the older (better quality and longer) cables on them, but to make a halfway effort and severely cripple the usability of these items in an attempt to buffer profit seems like a very short-sighted move on the part of JVC.
