This particilar DVD player was purchased because my previous JVC DVD player stopped working. It has since started working again, so this one is used primarily as a CD player. It works fine, but the buttons on the unit black, the unit is black, and the labels are a dark subtle color. If you don't have bright light in the room, you can't see which one to push. Back lit labels would be a huge improvement. The unit is surprisingly light and appears cheaply made, but is still working without issue. It's about 9 months old. Read more

Ever since I bought it, it has worked improperly. It freezes every 10 seconds or so, then unfreezes, and then the counter resets to zero. Of the 30 or 40 dvds I have tried to watch on it, I only know of 4 dvds that it did not freeze-up on. Don't bother with the replacement plan! It will cost you just as much time and money packaging and shipping this to the service provider. They will not replace or refund any product until they have attempted to fix it several times. Don't lose faith in JVC. My other JVC works fine. I'm sure this was damaged in the shipping process. But that is not an expense you want to incur. Read more

Simple, easy to use and an excellent price. Sleek & good looking. I still havenot learned what all this player can do so it would be helpful to have a better user's manual. Read more

DVD is old tech nowadays. Pretty much any DVD player is going to give you a decent picture and sound and have lots of features (MP3, pictures, etc.). The real difference between cheap ones and more expensive ones is the build quality. This one has a cheap plastic disc tray that can vibrate annoyingly. I've had two of these players (had to return one due to another malfunction) and they both do it. You can stop the vibrating just by putting your finger on the tray door, but obviously that's not something you should have to do. The display doesn't show as much as it could; for instance, it shows elapsed time but not the current chapter at the same time. This is not of much concern to me, but be aware of its limited capabilities. Note that this player does NOT have an optical digital audio output, as many DVD players do. Only coax digital (in addition to the standard RCA audio outputs), which again, is good enough for me. No one who would buy a sub-$100 DVD player could tell (or should care about) the difference between the audio from an optical cable and a coax cable. On the other hand, it looks nice, it's really compact, I love the simplicity, and it matches my JVC receiver and TV. The picture quality and color are good. My 4 star rating is dependent on the reoccurrence of the vibration, but I'm hopeful that it won't happen consistently. Read more

The player worked fine except that it would not always turn on. I had to unplug and plug it back in each time to use it. I sent it off to JVC for warranty service yesterday - cost me 14 bucks. So much for free shipping. I will re-think buying electronics online next time. Read more

My mother used to say, "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all". Well Mom, this JVC DVD player is certainly Cheap! Sorry Mom, but I feel I've got to warn others that there may be better choices. My wife bought this DVD player as JVC was considered a good brand & the saleman told her it was. Yes, it played DVDs, but it could not rewind (play backwards) or fast forward. If those buttons were pushed, this JVC DVD player jumped to random places in the DVD. The controller also had to be within a narrow range (reception cone) to work. My previous Panasonic DVD, which died suddenly, could receive almost anywhere. I also had trouble with the closed caption being properly displayed. Finally, who designed the black buttons on a black background? Even in bright light they were difficult to see & read, let alone the dim light most TV viewing is done in. Seems like all DVD players now suffer from having to be China-Cheap & are designed to be poorly designed, frustrating, throwaway items. Read more

I really enjoyed watching DVDs on this player. Worked flawlessly and never had any problems whatsoever with the picture quality. Looked very sharp to me. Comes with lots of options. Read more

I am a long time buyer of JVC products, but lately they seem to be generating nothing but bottom of the line items. I purchased this DVD player when my old JVC DVD player got zapped during a power outage. The old player worked flawlessly for over five years, but this one couldn't even make it through a day. This player skipped and stuttered through every dvd that I tried. I definitely don't recommend this DVD player to anyone. It's sad to see that a company that used to be my preference for electronics is quickly becoming a company that I will never buy from again. Read more
