I’m a fan of interesting world instruments, and have always enjoyed the delicate sounds the Kalimba is capable of making. This starter set is the perfect way for someone to dip their toes into the world of Kalimba without an outrageous price of admission! This set has EVERYTHING you need to start making music! The instrument itself is made fully of mahogany and steel (no plastic bits!) and has a nice, gentle resonance. The instrument shipped almost in tune, but the included tuning hammer and my clip-on tuner in the sound hole helped me get it pitch perfect. The set also includes note stickers and some color coded bars to help visualize where octaves and chords are. The bars themselves are also marked. I don’t find these inclusions as helpful as I know basic music theory, but these are very thoughtful touches for an absolute novice. The set also has some finger guards (don’t need as I fingerpick guitar and have callouses, but still very thoughtful), a cleaning cloth and a primer book. The book is the only thing here I have any qualms with, as the layout and wording can be VERY confusing. The information in the booklet is good, but REALLY could’ve used a proof-reader to make the learning process a little less frustrating. Bad booklet aside, this is still a FANTASTIC bargain! For about $20 you’re getting every single thing you would need to play Kalimba, sans a tuner. If you have one, great! If not, the book instructs you to download a tuner app which is also a viable (and free!) option. Within a few minutes of unboxing I was already rocking Michael Row The Boat Ashore and Bob Dylan’s With God On Our Side, and can’t wait to keep transcribing other Key of C songs on this wonderful little hand piano! Honestly one of my favorite orders of the year so far. Everything pictured was included, though the wood looks richer in person than I was expecting—not a bad thing at all though of course! At their default, the notes all sound in tune to me to a major scale. The tone sounds pretty (i.e., not dull), and the notes are all engraved clearly and just alternate left and right going up a C major scale. The notes start from C and go up two octaves but ends on an E after that. All natural notes / no sharps nor flats (as far as the engravings go, but you might be able to tune it differently). I don't have any prior kalimba experience, but do have extensive piano experience, and this was very easy to pick up. It doesn't hurt at all to strum each tine with my bare thumbs (some thumb caps were included but I found them too small on my thumbs). The carrying case is of very nice quality with foam cutouts for the kalimba and hammer, and for me is the main selling point of this kalimba over other similar products (either they had less protective cases from what I could see, or they cost more). Only thing is I don't know where to store the extra things after I threw away the plastic bag they came in (which didn't seem durable enough for repeated use). But none of these extras (other than the hammer, which does have a place in the case) seem necessary for me to have in the first place, so it's not a big deal to me. Overall I'm very pleased with this kalimba. I love it. It's so much easier to have this around to play for song inspiration than having to go sit at the piano sometimes. Read more

This is a beautifully crafted instrument. It is made of quality materials that will hold up against time, if it is taken care of properly. It comes with everything you need in the kit and has a stoarge bag. It plays beautiful melodies and is easy to use. This is a fun instrument to play and can be gifted to anyone! This is the perfect gift for any event or holiday! I think it is worth the money. Read more

I wasn't expecting such a good quality beginner instrument for $20. This kalimba is in C and is a little over 2 octaves, so it's a good choice for beginners. It doesn't feel cheaply made, and the case it comes with is pretty nice. There are 2 holes in the back to make a "wah-wah" type of sound effect, but do be aware this is only noticeable on the lower octave. I do wish the songs in the book were just sheet music, because the tabs are a bit confusing to read since the note heads are stretched out. The silicone thumb protectors are the only accessory that I didn't really like, they don't really stay on well while playing. I recommend buying some plastic thumb picks along with this, much better than the silicone ones. Read more

This thing is great. It's well made and sounds so good. The whole family couldn't resist picking it up and playing notes every chance. The carrying case is cushioned and holds all the accessories and looks nice. We're already looking for easy songs to learn. Would recommend. Read more
Very happy with this thumb piano. The design is very beautiful and the sounds it makes are amazing. Very easy to use. Lightweight and easy to hold. Comes with a very case, finger protectors. Also included is a playing key and a tuning hammer. It’s a beautiful set. The piano is easy to play and I didn’t need to tune any of the keys. The piano feels quality made as well as the case. Looking forward to learning a few songs. I would definitely recommend. Read more
