I installed the Kasa Smart Ceiling Fan Control & Dimmer Switch to replace a single wall switch that controlled both the fan and light on a MinkaAire ceiling fan. This fan has no remote and no receiver — it’s wired for wall control only — and the switch works perfectly in that setup. Installation was straightforward, and setup in the Kasa app was quick. Once installed, the switch has been very stable. Fan speeds change smoothly, and light dimming is clean with no flicker or buzzing. The physical buttons are intuitive, so you’re not forced to use the app for daily use. Alexa integration is fast and reliable. Important notes for buyers: This switch will not work with DC-motor fans. It’s designed for traditional AC motor fans only. It also won’t work with remote-only fans unless you remove or bypass the remote receiver and rewire the fan for wall control. A neutral wire is required (clearly stated by Kasa). This is because the switch needs constant power to run the smart electronics and maintain Wi-Fi connectivity — it’s not just a passive switch. If you have a properly wired AC-motor ceiling fan that’s controlled from a wall switch, this is an excellent smart upgrade. No remotes to lose, no extra hardware in the canopy — just reliable wall, app, and voice control that actually works. Highly recommend for the right application. Read more

Was surprisingly easy to install, and it worked perfectly right out of the box. Looks great on the wall, too! Was easy to connect to my app on my phone. Amazing. Can’t believe I waited so long to install a new dimmer when it was so easy! Read more

My house has ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms with independent light and fan switch. This smart dimmer/control was a perfect upgrade. Installation will be familiar with anyone who has replaced a light switch or receptacle in their home. This switch has some short wires coming out of it that have tinned ends pre-stripped. While the switch comes with plenty of screw-on wire nuts, I'd recommend DIYers get some lever lock wire nuts instead. Your electrician or handyman will probably bin the included wire nuts. Do check your home wiring before buying this. Not all homes are wired for independent fan/light control at the wall. Some may not be wired in a safe fashion either. Setup is a breeze via the Kasa smart home app. The switch is quickly detected and added to my Wifi network. Some added features of this switch is a soft on/off function for the light. You can even fine-tune it via the app to work with your chosen bulb. The fan control works perfectly. Simply set the chain pull on the fan to its highest speed, the wall control does the rest. You even gain a fourth speed. There is an audible hum from the fan as it starts up but once at speed it is nearly inaudible. Why dock 1 star? I also use home assistant. The Kasa app is great, but I have smart home stuff from other vendors too. There's something with the Home Assistant Kasa integration that does not give you dimmer and speed control. You only get on/off functionality in Home Assistant. Even worse, Home Assistant turns on to 100% ignoring the last speed/dimmer setting used. Hopefully this gets fixed down the road. Google Home works fine. Gemini will have no issue operating your fan and light when you say the magic words. Read more

I love the design of the switch. Installation was easy. It works seamlessly with Home Assistant. After installing the switch and testing it I was ready to add it to my smart home. I scanned the QR code then installed it into Apple home. It took a couple minutes but installed the first time without errors. And then deleted it from Apple home and open Home Assistant. Home Assistant located the device and asked for the code. Once the code was entered the switch finished installation into Home Assistant on the first try and work seamlessly. Time will tell how staple this connection is, but I am very pleased. Read more
