Stomach sleeper

About Me: Male 5'-11" / 175lbs. I had originally ordered the "regular" size in this bag, but had to return as it was too restrictive. I reordered the "long" version and, on first impressions, I'm very pleased. I'm able to rollover, move around etc. inside the bag without any restrictions. I believe the cut of this bag being "semi-rectangular" instead of the more traditional "mummy" style is a great benefit to stomach sleepers like myself. The cinch draw string and draft collar at the head are good touches as well. The zipper is smooth, but can catch at times. Looking forward to testing it in the field very soon. If I feel that it is necessary, I will update this review. I would very much recommend this to any stomach sleeper who is seeking an entry level, good quality, down sleeping bag from one of the long time brand names in outdoor gear. Happy Trails! Read more

Great bag with extra room

Great bag. I'm not a fan of mummy bags, so i liked how this one fits. this thing is plenty spacious. I'm 6 foot, and i got the longer one so have some room to position the bag over my head. It dosen't pack down very small, but it shouldn't because it's a 0 degree bag with plenty of down. All in all I'm very happy with it. It kept me warm under freezing temps. I'd definitely but it again if I had to. Read more

Nice bag

I have used the sleeping bag several times now and it's quite comfortable... Although even camping at 7000 feet in the high Sierra, it has not been that cold yet... But I still believe it will do the job well... I always complain a little bit about zippers because I used to have a Sierra Designs sleeping bag years ago and it seemed like the zipper was twice as big and never got hung up... This bag has a nice zipper baffle, but you do have to be a little careful zipping and unzipping. Read more

The down bag I’ve been waiting for

I’ve had numerous Kelty sleeping bags (and other gear) over the years including several down bags. As I’ve gotten older, mummy-shaped bags just weren’t working for me. I am a side sleeper who likes to be able to move my legs around. I wanted a down bag spacious enough to be comfortable, light enough for backpacking (my main use), warm enough for 4-season use (in my location), and that wouldn’t break the bank. I’d considered getting a Nemo Disco 15 long this summer, but they’re a little more than I wanted to spend. Enter the Kelty Supernova. I purchased the 20 degree long bag. I am 6’1” and 220 pounds. While I have yet to camp with it, I have gotten inside it and it’s like manna from heaven. Very spacious. I can turn over and move around easily. I can pull my knees up to my chest if I wanted to… and yet it doesn’t feel like there is “wasted” space in the bag. I will update after my first field use. I am planning some trips here in Oklahoma where the temps are warm this time of year, but am doing a trip to the Jewel Basin in NW Montana this July (elevation 6,000 feet), which should be an excellent test of the Supernova’s quality. Update (7/29/2024) I did a 3 day hike through the Jewel Basin in NW Montana two weeks ago. The temperatures were in the 80s during the day and 50s at night, which admittedly wasn’t much of a temperature test for this bag. That said, I was extremely pleased with its performance. The zipper goes all the way around the foot box, which allows you to open it up and use it more like a quilt, which worked perfectly in my situation. As I said in the earlier portion of my review, the bag is roomy even when fully-zipped. I plan to do Eagle Rock Loop in central Arkansas this fall, which should offer a better “temperature test” for the bag. So far, I am very pleased with the Supernova. Read more

Didn't quite do it...

I wanted a good 3 season bag, but this didn't quite cut it. We're in FL so our 3 seasons for camping are Fall-Spring here and I thought this bag might do the trick for something that would be good on 50-65 degree nights (my camping sweet spot). I liked that they were a sort of hybrid mummy/rec back and could be zipped together too. When I got them the bags looked high quality but were really thin. We took them on a canoe trip where low at night was in the low 60s. It took me a while to get warm but I was ok. My wife was "freezing" for a while but better by the time we woke up. Pretty obvious that these weren't going to cut it any colder than that, so back to Amazon they went. Read more
