Best Pocket Knife I've Ever Owned

TheDadBodAugust 27, 2016

Being a real man means carrying a real knife. And it also means that the knife one carries need not be a camouflaged, Navy SEAL issued survival knife with a 6 1/2" blade. Like all real men instinctively know, discretion is the key to not being laughed at by other men and as such, for a real man, this is the knife to own. Discretion without sacrificing function is the key attribute that makes this knife stand out. I know that there are a lot of great knives out there and that people have their allegiances. But, if you are in the market for a sub-$40 daily driver knife that feels like it should cost about $100, this is the knife for you. I first came across the Kershaw Scallion a couple of years ago when I found one on clearance and figured it was worth a shot. From the day I bought my first one, I have not carried any other pocket knife. Since then, I have bought several other Kershaw knives and I have been equally impressed. I just picked up this blue one to replace the black one ( Kershaw 1620 Scallion Folding Knife with SpeedSafe ) I lost last week. The color is way better than I had imagined it would be. I like it so much, I'm going to buy the OD Green one too. The speedsafe opening on this little thing is amazing. Unlike some others, I've not run into issues keeping the blade on this knife surgically sharp. This knife sees a lot of action and to that end, I sharpen it about once every 2-3 weeks. It holds an edge very well and the blade is sturdy. Keep in mind, I'm not using this thing to fend off bear attacks or split wood. That would be ridiculous, but nonetheless, there are people out there who buy a knife, use it as a hammer and then write a review complaining about how weak the blade is and how terrible it is at holding a edge. For anyone looking to pick up a very reliable, very compact pocket knife at a very reasonable price, I cannot recommend this knife enough. Read more

American made and it shows!

I have always like Buck and Gerber knives over the years but wanted to try something different. Looking over features and ratings I thought I would give this knife a try. Its made here in the US and I can tell you it makes a difference. There are a lot of good knives out there with pricing all over the place. I didn't want to spend over a hundred dollars on a knife for EDC but I wanted a high quality, US product. I found what I was looking for in this knife. I wanted something on the smaller size but built well. I wanted it to operate smoothly and easily in my old hands. I wanted it to fit my hand well when using it. I wanted a quality built product that would give me years of service. This little gem fit the bill. I have another knife from this company that they have built in China. That knife I really like for a "beater" for day-to-day use. It was just under $20 and if I break it or lose it its not a big loss. Surprisingly it turned out to be a great knife too, especially for its price. Kershaw seems to offer great value in all their products. This knife is a step up in price from their imported models but the differences are clear. The action is so smooth and easy to operate The blade is finely made and sharp The fit is great. The first time you open this knife you will be impressed by its smoothness and obvious quality. Its pricesd very well for what you get and I don't think you will be disappointed. "You get what you pay for" and this knife as it easily outshines those low priced "imported" models. There is a certain pride in owning and using a high quality item, This is a lovely little knife who's quality is clear when you use it. Well worth the price. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on some overpriced knife to get good quality. I am more than satisfied with this purchase and will keep this brand high on my list from now on. Read more

Bought it to keep in my pocket. Not too heavy easy to lock or unlock and easy to flip the blade out for use. Just the right size. Very well made. Read more

Great EDC

QuangSeptember 22, 2011

I work in a warehouse and opt to carry a pocket knife instead of a box cutter. The balance of this knife makes it easy to open boxes and cut tape. The serrations helps with sawing through double and triple wall corrugated cardboard boxes. I originally bought a non-serrated version of this knife and liked it enough that I picked up a serrated version. When I lost the serrated one, I picked up another one here on Amazon.com. I eventually found the lost one, so now I have 3 scallions. The speedsafe assisted open mechanism is handy for rapid single-hand deployments. There is no play when the knife is open and locked. I don't care much for the "safety" but you can tighten the screw of the safety down so it becomes harder to move. Aside from the 3 scallions, I also own a Kershaw Leek and a Kershaw NRG. I eventually want to buy the Kershaw RAM. Prior to becoming a Kershaw devotee, I carried a SOG Flash and S&W assisted open knife (I can't remember the model of the S&W but it was a $30 one I got right here on Amazon). The SOG was a great knife but I eventually started getting some play in the knife in the open and locked position. The S&W had screws come loose, so I loctited every screw on the knife, which alleviated the problem but the blade also started to have some play over time. I carried the SOG for the better part of 2 years though so it saw a lot of abuse. Despite owning several knives, I do not have a rotation. The one I carry to work is the one I carry every day...and I do not go anywhere without a pocket knife...unless it is strictly forbidden or illegal to do so. So far, my Kershaw scallion is standing up to the abuse of every day work and every day play, and as long as it continues to do so, I will stand by the Kershaw brand. If you're looking for a small, handy, and tough every day carry knife...I would recommend no other knives than the Kershaw Scallion. Read more
