Worthwhile during the sale!

kaykayneedswaterDecember 19, 2025

I’d recommend this if you’re (1) a pure matcha lover who wants to taste the matcha itself (water > milk), (2) you have a machine/frother/blender for mixing, and (3) flavor-wise you like umami, fresh, hint of floral more than seaweed, and (4) it’s at sale. For reference, I’ve had most of the introductory level ceremonial grade matcha across Amazon/North America/ China. I had some during Kyoto as well but not a lot. I bought this Heritage version Matcha during a Cyber Sale for $44. I’ve never tried Kiyo, I had purchased some of ippodo or Naoki products in the U.S. I’m comparing it against other matchas I’m available of: Naoki Yame ceremonial grade ($37/100g) and Matcha lab’s 7th ceremonial grade matcha ($17/200g but in China, you can’t beat the price). For this kiyo matcha (the one in the tin), it is hands down the greenest in my stash, though my other have been opened longer (one for ~2 months, one for ~2 weeks) but I stored them all in the fridge to delay oxidation process. Flavor-wise, it tastes super fresh and clean. I’m satisfied (yes, satisfied) that it has none of stale tea-powder note. I love whisker but also I’m rush to commute this year, I hate when my matcha is not completely blended. So a blender and a milk frother comes in handy. While this powder can be a bit more stubborn to fully disperse, once it’s mixed it stays bright, vibrant green for the longest time compared to the others. I would agree that water (something with less favor or aroma) goes the best with it. Milk will cover its flavor, and this one I’ve tried 4 g per 100 mL/2g per 100ml. It is not bitter at all, and it finishes with a really pleasant sweetness after the initial fresh, crisp taste. Tho it raise my energy up if I had 4g, it did it supper smoothly, no jittery or anxious spike. Quality absolutely more than 4 star This is so far the best I have for it taste umami, no bitterness, and bright) Value for money: I didn’t regret it. However, $56 is a bit overpriced. Read more

Good Matcha for a Decent Price.

CodyJuly 16, 2025

For the price, it is a bit expensive to justify. But in terms of flavor, it very good if you are looking to get a large quantity of ceremonial grade matcha to drink on a daily basis, but don't want to spend too much for high quality, low quantity. It is worth noting that how you prepare the matcha (temperature, tools, etc.) will affect the final product. Overall, the flavor is good and yields a good final product. Read more

Top quartile of high end Matchas I have tasted. (Revised review)

Always looking 4December 17, 2024

I am new to matcha and have tried 4-5 five different brands is this price point and this the best one so far. Richest green, Nice creaminess not a lot of bitter notes but still rich in flavor. Still learning and exploring but I am sure I will circle back to this one. Sorry for the crappy photo was reviewing the whisk and that was the focus of the photo but you can see the nice foam and the rich green color. Want to give update several month later. First I want to be clear what version I order. It was Kiyo Matcha Premium Grade Toyokage Ceremonial Uji Matcha - Pure Japanese First Harvest Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea Powder from Uji, Japan (40g/1.4oz) I have had over a dozen matcha now and at least 3 of these were superior. However those there were also significantly more expensive. The best was more than double price per gram and the other two about 20% more in price. One other observation I see with these teas is that the greener teas tend to have a little more moisture so they tend to clump a little more so you definitely have to use a sifter. It's counterintuitive, but the dryer tees are actually easier to mix, but I also think when you over dry delicate matcha and the tea you lose some flavor. I still stand by this being an excellent tea and I think it was separates it from a lot of others. It's a solid value at the high end. It's no longer the best tea I've tasted, but it's in the top 25% and I'm only talking about high end Matcha tea. Read more

Great matcha for the price

Paige PDecember 26, 2025

Pleasantly surprised. I have been enjoying the chiba no shiro recently. It has a beautiful, vivid green color. It is punchy, but not overwhelming on the nose and in the cup. To me, it's nutty and creamy and makes for a beautiful latte, and it's even quite delicious as a lightly sweetened usucha. It's a great value for the price, in my opinion. I will absolutely be ordering more! Read more
