This handmade butcher knife showed up looking and feeling like a serious tool, not a decorative prop. The blade has a rugged, hammered finish with cut‑out vents that you can clearly see in my photo, and the edge has a nice curve that makes it easy to rock through ingredients on the cutting board. The handle feels substantial in my hand, with finger grooves and metal rivets that keep it secure, even when things get a bit messy. The included leather sheath, also visible in the picture on the counter, fits the blade snugly and makes it feel ready for kitchen duty or a future camping trip. When I first took it out of the sheath, the knife was pretty heavily oiled, so I had to wash it down thoroughly before using it on food. Once cleaned and dried, the steel looked and felt high quality, and the edge was sharp right out of the box. I used it on a wooden cutting board, and even after a session of chopping, the blade didn’t show any nicks or rolls along the edge. The weight is centered slightly toward the blade, which gives each cut a bit more power without feeling clumsy. In the kitchen, this thing really came alive when cutting up some morning sausage for breakfast. The curved edge glided cleanly through the meat, and the wide blade gave me plenty of control while keeping my knuckles safely away from the board. I also tried it on a few vegetables, and it sliced peppers and onions smoothly without sticking too much to the blade. This knife is heavy and looks amazing with the 3D rough forging design and the contrast between the darker material, the polished blade, and the wooden handle! This is made of a more budget oriented Chinese grade 4Cr13MoV steel that is not brittle, is stainless / corrosion resistant, is easy to sharpen, and they claim a 58 HRC hardness which is a good balance of edge retention while still being easy to maintain. The solid wood handle is a really good shape and thickness and gives the knife a good balanced and controlled feel. The thick full tang design makes this feel really durable and solid. The wooden handle could have been just a bit longer for anyone with average or large hands will likely have their pinky finger resting on the metal loop. I also notice the rough finish design of the blade causes some small waves/gaps where the handle starts so the wood and metal are not seamlessly connected for the first half inch. It also would have been nice if they put grooves on the top of the blade where the handle starts to provide extra thumb grip. It comes with a "fake" leather (polyurethane?) sheath that does look nicely decorated but it is flimsy and the layers were already pulling apart at the tip...don't plan on walking around with this on your belt, but it will be ok if you need something to keep the blade covered so you can pack the knife as part of a camp kitchen. The Kofery butcher knife is a decent camping knife that seems well-made and of quality materials. They claim that it’s made of high-carbon stainless steel or 4CR13Mov with 58 Rockwell Hardness C (HRC). I don’t really have any way to test or dispute that, but I have some skepticism. Likewise, I can verify whether it’s handmade. Maybe hand assembled. Either one of these pieces, the handle or blade, could be machined; however, I would add that the handle is definitely nice. The blade itself is very sharp. Typically, I like to hone blades that I receive down to a razor edge, but this one is already pretty sharp, and it is sufficient given its purpose as a camping blade. The blade is factory-treated with oil to help prevent corrosion, but you may want to add more, especially after camping with it. The textured blade makes cleaning a little more complex because small inclusions can be missed if you are not thorough enough. The handle is also a standout feature for me. If there is a handmade piece, it's definitely the handle. It fits perfectly in the hand and has built-in grips and smooth contours for easy manipulation in food preparation. The wood is treated to protect against water and washes easily. The loop end makes it easy to attach to a lanyard or belt. The sheath that comes with the knife is actual leather. Real leather is immediately noticeable for its smell and is difficult to fake. It allows the knife to slide in and out easily and has a button snap on the hilt to prevent accidental release. Overall, I’m pretty impressed with this blade. Even if it’s not really handmade, I think the value and quality are higher-grade at a budget price. The idea of this knife is exciting but it’s not very high quality. The blade isn’t very sharp and it looks to be crooked, like it’s angled to one side or maybe lopsided. The handle feels ok and does seem sturdy so that is a positive. The sheath is very cheaply made - if this is something you would be considering for a gift, it wouldn’t be something I’d be proud to give to someone. Overall, just poorly made unfortunately.
