This is a very sturdy and imposing lock. I found the combo very easy to change from the factory setting and can easily change it again if I like. This is a good size to use in combo with a cable to keep the wheels of the bike secured along with the frame. This is very heavy, but I think it will be a respectable deterrent to casual opportunists. It had better work, it cost more thank my bike! This has a security level of 4, meaning it's one of the lowest rated that Kryptonite sells, and it's priced that way too. It has about the same security as a general padlock and most padlocks can be cut in seconds. Operation is smooth so far and works great for the purpose. I use this one for the bike rack in my work - which is inside a keycard access bike room and a locked parking garage. Basically, there are two badged doors before you can even get to the bike area. I wanted something I could leave at work for quick trips back and forth. This lock can be easily defeated by 'professional' bike thieves in less than 30-seconds. Kryptonite recommends this only for rural areas and quick stops in non-urban areas, which is accurate. For locking on a street in anywhere with a decent population, look for level 8 or higher. I use the Kryptonite Evolution chain for locking on a road during the day. Yes, the heavy weight (and cost) of higher security locks is not fun but it's better than coming back to a missing bike. Used on adult electric scooter. I live in a huge city in Texas and they steal everything all the time here. Locks are a deterrent as we know. Bold thieves have cordless angle grinders and steal in populated areas in broad daylight. Seemingly nobody or nothing stops them. I can't leave my scooter unattended for more than 5 minutes, but if I gotta dash into Circle K for something, it works. If you live in a low crime area, this will do the job. Not too heavy this lock can go in a backpack or even hang off a belt while riding. Heavy locks can offer more security but come with some inconvenience. Mechanism works well. Read more
After 2 months, the lock wouldn't unlock. The lock was clearly doing something when the combo was correct, but I could not get the lock to open. I finally was able to get the lock to open by setting the correct combo and then spinning each of the numbers individually while holding open the lever open, the last number was the only one that would spin in that scenario and when I moved it 1 number up and then back the lock finally opened. However, now the lock will open when the last number is + or - 1 number from the correct combo. Suffice it to say I can't trust this lock anymore which is disappointing because outside of the combo functionality, the lock is solid. I will probably get a key U-lock in the future as those seem to work better than a combo. Read more
Highly durable four digit, customizable, U bike lock. It has the dust cover to keep it clean when its outside, its durable, super easy to lock and unlock, and compact. Maybe someone would be annoyed with the direction in which you must connect it, but I assume that it is so you have mechanical interference when it is connected, such that the frame bears most of the load rather than the actual locking mechanism. The numbers have a preferential direction to be turned, but again, oh well - it is otherwise exactly what I was looking for, for my electric scooter. Read more
