As a college student, freelance photographer and graphic designer, and works on my personal laptop for my current job- this has changed my life(seriously it’s done wonders). I kept running out of space on my Mac for the longest time because of all the files I had stored and the programs I constantly used. This external hard drive was recommended to me and it is so easy to use and is super reliable! It’s easy to travel with as I bring it everywhere and the fact that it was designed with a rubber casing puts me more at ease that there’s a lesser chance of it getting damaged. Just got this, so a long term use report will have to wait. My primary backup drive unexpectedly died, and this is the replacement. One thing to be aware of, the drive comes preformatted exFAT, something of a universal standard that is readable by just about any operating system. Personally, I prefer NTFS, and have a program on my MacBook Air that allows it to read NTFS, so I reformatted the drive. Sharing between my Win desktop and Mac portable is now seamless. After formatting, I used the XCOPY command to copy all data from two internal drives on the desktop and two USB shuttle drives to this new drive. The Mac has no data files. While the volume of data did take a while to transfer, the speed for individual files seemed quite fast. In test retrievals, there was no lag in accessing the La Cie drive. If I could give zero starts I wold. Drive was in it's retail box which was just in an Amazon brown paper shipping envelope. Opened i it up and connected to PC. Drive showed up in file explorer. So far so good. Started moving files to it and uh oh. Error that he drive was no longer found. Disconnected connected and now the drive doesn't show up. Should have heeded the reviews with this issue on the 4TB LaCie drive. Returned. Oh yeah, even tho it was shipped in a brown Amazon envelope, I had to box it to return it thru UPS. NOTE: It may say LaCie but it's a Seagate. This is 2nd bad on initial use Seagate drive. They used to be a good product. Read more
