What a great and versatile stand

Bonnie StPierreMay 25, 2020✓ Verified purchase

My Toshiba has been overheating lately, and I was tired of finding creative ways of getting at least part of it up off of the table to allow better air circulation and cooling. It's a thin laptop, but still, not a notebook, and though this stand isn't made for that, I took a chance. I'm glad that I did. I am using the stand without any fear of my laptop slipping off the rubber grip bottom edge, and the interior cooling fan seems to be working more effectively. The multi-options for setting the height of the stand are great, and this baby is rugged, light and folds up thin and flat! Perfect for me, who carries too much in her tote/computer bag already. So, my Toshiba laptop bottom edge tapers. If you've got a flat edge, thicker laptop, this probably won't work for you. For a notebook, I'm sure it would be exactly what you want. Read more

How did I function without this?

The days of your laptop flat on your desk are over! I am an artist and I work with a tablet propped up on my desk with a stand. I used my laptop flat on my desk previously, which I use for key commands and the trackpad. Unfortunately, the incline of my arm into the flat desk left a really horrible indent in my skin from the edge of the desk. After prolonged 4-5 hours of drawing, my left wrist ached. I bought this on a whim hoping it would help. And by lordy, it do! My left wrist no longer has the horrible numb tinglies. It is also incredibly sturdy for my 15" Macbook pro. I can open my laptop still with one hand and the stand will go nowhere. I haven't had to tote this stand anywhere outside my apartment, but the stand itself folds flat and is very lightweight. I highly recommend this for anyone teetering on whether to buy it or not. I am very happy and my left wrist thanks me as well. Read more

Perfect for placing your keyboard under your laptop

PrismaticJuly 21, 2020✓ Verified purchase

This stand is one of only two that I could find that has a riser-style configuration along the perpendicular axis relative to where you sit. That is, unlike other risers, the stand’s supports sit in the front and back rather than side to side. This stand has more clearance than the other one that I found. I don’t know why this configuration isn’t more common since it’s the only practical way to place a keyboard underneath your laptop. The photos that I’ve posted show my Kinesis Advantage keyboard under my MacBook Air. The Advantage is a very bulky keyboard, yet there’s plenty of clearance for my hands to type freely without my knuckles getting anywhere close to the top of the stand. Keep in mind that the Advantage’s keys are mostly off to the sides in two separate wells, not covered on top by the stand. I would imagine that for more standard keyboards with a lower profile that have many keys toward the center it still wouldn’t be a problem. The stand itself feels very sturdy, machined out of solid aluminum. The rubber pads feel high-quality and do a good job of gripping my laptop and my work surface. Everything is very lightweight. I would improve the product in two ways. First, while the parts themselves feel solid, there aren’t any latches to keep them in a fixed position. Everything relies on gravity and friction to keep it in place. In practice, this isn’t a problem and perhaps it’s even a good thing: no latches means simpler mechanics and less weight. Nonetheless, the stand ends up wobbling a bit if you press on it when it’s set up like in my photos. (There is zero wobble in the other configurations.) Again, not a real problem, more like a minor annoyance. There’s no way that your laptop will topple over, I just want the satisfaction of feeling everything lock into place. Second, the manufacturer only powder coated the surfaces, leaving the shiny beveled edges exposed, which looks a little tacky. The rubber pads are also a separate shade of gray, and not a very appealing one at that. I would rather that everything be one color, or at most two colors (one for the metal, one for the rubber pads). I would recommend a darker gray for the rubber pads, at least on the space gray version of the stand that I bought. All in all, the only game in town if you want to put a keyboard underneath your laptop, and not a bad game at that. Would recommend without hesitation. Read more

Finally, a laptop stand that stands up to the laptop!

psfollettNovember 29, 2022✓ Verified purchase

I have a Surface 2 that I have wanted a stand for for some time because I noticed I was getting that "turtle's neck" way of sitting over it. I also wanted it to be light and unobtrusive since I periodically travel for a living. Unfortunately, I've tried a few different ones that either could not deal with the lopsided weight of the tablet portion of the Surface compared to the keyboard portion (i.e., the laptop would fall over onto the tablet portion) or it just wouldn't stick well, and so the laptop would slide off. Therefore, I realized I needed to forego my top priorities and go with something that was more substantial and would give me enough height to avoid the issues I had with my posture. I think I finally found it!!! I've now had this stand for a little over a week, and while it is a little bit heavier than I would like, structurally it has not had any issues with keeping my laptop in its appointed position. And it's not REALLY heavy - it only weighs a pound; however, when you're lugging your carry-ons thru O'Hare and they've changed you gate from G concourse to L then back to the last gate in H on a Thursday night after a long week at a client site, every ounce matters. I like the mostly metal construction and the rubber-like lip that keeps the laptop from sliding forward. There are also rubber-like bits in strategic locations so it avoids scratching up the laptop and the desk it's sitting on. The lip protruding above the keyboard by maybe 1/16" (the front of the keyboard is about 1/4" thick on my model) and they total about 7.5" (19.5 cm) in width. Given some of the other stands I considered, I believe this lip is shorter than many of the others. Since I have the laptop at a fairly steep angle, I'm forced to keep my hands well above the keyboard, so the protuberances don't impact me. If you're someone who works with your laptop at a more shallow angle, depending on the size of your laptop and where you position your hands, it *might* be an issue if you're not also using a wrist rest. When folded up, the stand stays flat for easy transport. Due to it's texture (like shiny powder coating) it is easy to distinguish when I reach into my laptop bag. This did NOT come with a carry pouch, which would be a nice extra that I see other stands come with. Since it doesn't come with one, I can easily remedy that with one of the many shoe bags I own or one of those lightweight nylon backpacks. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Read more
