Four of us downloaded the Lego Builder app on our devices and used the "Build Together" feature to assemble this set as a team. It worked phenomenally and kept everyone building steadily. Two children and two adults assembled the whole set in about 2-2.5 hours. If you're going to try building this as a team, just know you'll end up having multiple bags open at once and each person will bounce around between bags as they follow their personal set of instructions. As a result, it's easiest if you have bowls you can dump the bags into to keep them separate. That way, if your teammate just finished building an item from Bag 5 and their next section requires them to go back to Bag 3, they can easily grab the correct bowl of pieces. The age on the box says 18+, but we did this with a 7 year old, a 12 year old, and two adults over 40. The kids had a fair amount of Lego experience, so they didn't need much help as we went. This set is a little on the "Technic" side, so I think if you put this set together with younger children, it's worth having an adult verify that the internal "gears" are assembled correctly and securely, since whether or not the machine vends smoothly depends on how well those portions are put together. We had one issue that took about 10 minutes to troubleshoot, but we figured it out and the machine now vends perfectly every time. Overall, this was really enjoyable to build together and the interactable end result is a lot of fun. The minifigs are placed into the capsules unassembled, so it'll be fun to have friends over and let them "pay" to dispense a minifig that they can then put together. My kids and I absolutely love Legos! I mean, who doesn’t, I grew up with Legos and it is an amazing thing to be able to now see my kids even my teenagers still wanting Legos, especially at Christmas time. So when I saw this set and the creativity behind it, I just knew I had to get it for them. They loved this set and were almost fighting over who was going to put it together. My 14-year-old won and I was shocked that she put this entire set together by herself within the span of maybe 2 hours. She normally goes for Lego botanicals and is not necessarily experienced like myself and the older kids at putting together bigger more complicated sets, now this is not a complicated set, but for her, this is a step up from the botanicals. This is a fairly easy set to assemble and this was a great segway for her to exploring other amazing Lego sets. The set looks so cute and is solid. It also works as a vending machine, just gently! It’s the quality that you would come to expect from Lego. We will definitely be adding this to our Lego stand along with the other collections that we have and that we have been proud to build. The media could not be loaded. (review of LEGO Vending Machine Set #21358) I spent a couple of hours on a rainy Sunday afternoon building this with my 10 year old. In reality, she did about 95% of the work. Even with the 18+ rating on the box, she probably could have handled it on her own. I think the rating is because the build is a bit long, and quite precise in some places. During our build there were a couple of spots where I stepped in to fix something before it had to be taken apart later. My daughter would likely have caught the mistakes herself, but it saved us some time and frustration. Most importantly, she had a great time. When we finished, she asked if we could build another set the next day. That alone makes this one a success. As for the set itself, the build stays interesting the whole way through. It is fun to see how the designers solved the mechanical challenges while still keeping the outside clean and true to the look of a real vending machine. You can tell a lot of thought went into making the internal mechanism reliable while still using standard LEGO elements. The most impressive part is that the finished model actually works, and it works consistently. Every time you use it, it dispenses correctly. That is not easy to pull off. In the end, this is a clever, well-designed set. It was varied enough to stay engaging, and it was short enough to finish in one afternoon.
