This works like a very high-powered hair dryer. I tested it for its intended purpose to light coals and it works. It takes a little while to heat up, but once it gets to temperature, the coals warm up and catch pretty well. Works even better than a lighter. It has a blower mode to give the lit coals more air to help it spread faster. I tested it as a way to wilt and burn weeds. It also works for this, but for plants that aren't already dry, they don't burn. It just causes them to wilt back, but I would probably have to keep it on for much longer for it to catch fire. It works better on already dried weeds, but that's not a common thing for me since they're usually already dead. The battery does not last very long when the heat is activated. I didn't measure it exactly, but I think it was out of power in less than 20 minutes when on the heat mode. The blower-only mode probably lasts longer. The coals light up after a couple minutes though, so this is good enough to start a few grilling sessions before the battery runs out. Read more

The media could not be loaded. I am quite impressed with this lighter! Very easy to use and quite intuitive. When you turn it on to heat mode (push button forward) it starts very slow, nearly no fan on, but the tip heats up glowing red rather quickly. When I was testing it upon first getting it I thought 'well that's not very helpful if there's no fan in heat mode', but when I actually USED IT AS INTENDED, on some charcoal, I realized that it takes a minute or two to fully rev up the fan. Makes sense too, since you don't want a lot of air while the charcoal is first heating, it would be counter-intuitive. It's not until it's well-lit that a stream of air is beneficial. And this baby works GREAT! It also has a fan only mode (pull button back) to really power up your coals once they're well lit. And yes, it comes with a battery charger. I had to ask that question myself since the listing doesn't (or didn't at the time) mention it, it was assumed, but you know what often happens when we assume. It has all you need to get rockin. It even has a hook to mount it to the edge of your grill, although beware, I had mine tumble since it's not secure in every application, lesson learned (it's durability is on point though!). I read a review here that said it lasts about 20 mins on heat mode, that's a LONG time if you're using this as a charcoal or fire starter. You'll get plenty of uses out of a single charge. I have no issues with the battery life. Just recharge it! I think it's a good value, it will save you money overy many years on other starters and flame lighters. Read more

This works really well, and can cause your kindling and tinder to light very quickly. If you use it for that and use it as an electric bellows, the battery seems to die pretty fast. I saw that in another purchaser's post, but thought (based on the appearance and voltage of the battery) that it would accept batteries from that company that makes yellow tools. They don't fit, so you're stuck with the one battery it comes with. The biggest issue with that is if you are on a longer camping trip and want to use this over multiple days without a power source to recharge the battery. For lighting a fireplace, a wood stove, or a fire pit, this is a great product. Just keep it topped off all the time. If you are planning on using it for multiple fires, plan accordingly for the charging. Overall, it's good, but the less-than-expected battery life makes it not great. Read more
