I have been putting off this review because I wanted to try to understand these glasses, but I’ll be honest, I just can’t figure them out. The concept was exciting to me as an accountant in a multinational company that has to either read multiple other languages or talk to people speaking them. I’ve been using a free translation app that requires a phone camera to take a photo of the text and translate that, and video conferencing apps with closed caption translations, but I was hoping these would be a better alternative. Instead, they are more confusing, have very limited instructions, require an app subscription to use more than a small number of times, and don’t seem to do (without jumping through a lot of hoops) anything more than the other services I’m using do (and those are free!!!) There are recording options, but I am not comfortable storing confidential conversations in an app, plus there are legal implications to recording conversations. To top it all off, the lenses are foggy, so they’re not even very useful as blue light blocking glasses (which was the other benefit I had been looking forward to since I’m on a computer all day.) And they start to hurt my ears faster than regular glasses. The one thing that is kind of nice is that the built in speakers allow me to unobtrusively listen to music while wearing them without anything in my ears. The sound can be heard by people near you, but it’s very quiet unless you’re blasting it. The camera controls do not seem useful at all because it’s still your phone camera, so why not just take the photo directly with that? It’s not a camera in the glasses, which was what I originally thought. Maybe these are useful with in person translation in which one person has the glasses and one has earbuds, but it’s not really the glasses doing it, it’s the app, so you could just share a pair of earbuds instead (at least that’s how the instructions make it seem.) Overall, they work alright but are a hassle and are not going to be worth the cost for most people when there are free and simpler options out there. Read more
I didn't have high expectations when ordering these, but I was surprised by the style and fit. I have a big noggin which leads to taking a while when selecting frames for my prescription. These fit well and look good. I would have my lenses fitted in these frames if I needed them on a more regular basis. They're also comfortable on the face. They powered on right out of the box and charged quickly. I haven't had to recharge them so no idea what battery life is like yet. They connected to my phone without issue and seem pretty easy to use. I'd recommend for those visiting abroad or wanting to watch a foreign film without subtitles. I'm really kind of torn on these glasses. I love the IDEA of them but I feel the functionality is a bit more difficult than it should be. Let me break it down for you... 1. Translation: you have to use the app and it isn't like the person just talks and you can hear it read the translation back to you. You use the app and as they talk, it translates in writing on your app (I had on a Spanish TV Show) - not very well, it seemed to miss A LOT of words - and you have to read the translation on your app. When translating for 2 users, for example translating English to Spanish and Spanish back to English with two speakers, you would have to use the phone and the glasses and go back and forth between the two people. The good about this is, in a pinch, I truly think this could be very helpful. But I certainly wouldn't want to depend on it in an emergency in a foreign country. 2. As a Bluetooth earbud: for this, I think these are GREAT! I put them on and work around the house listening to music or my audio books. The sound quality is not great, certainly no BOSE or Beats, but it gets the job done without sticking earbuds in your ears or having to wear headphones. I love that. 3. Button functionality: Again, a bit of a let down. They're very finicky and not easy to find... You're either having to feel around to figure out where the button is, or you go to adjust your glasses and, *poof* you've skipped ahead 3 chapters/songs. 3. Look and battery: I found the battery life to be very good. I went about 6 - 8 hours listening to my audio book while working around the house and had no issues with them lasting the whole time. Get fit will, look very trendy and cute, and are comfortable - no slipping, pinching, or sliding off. I will wrap this up by saying this could TOTALLY be user error. I tried several times watching their set up and use videos - not very helpful - and reading through the instruction - not a lot there either. I don't find them "self explanatory" from a Bluetooth perspective and the translation option just didn't cut it. So, I'm open to continue using them for audio listening, but unless I find more directions and information on how to more effectively use the translation option... I would just consider these glasses overpriced earbuds. Read more
