The movie itself is a timeless classic and I don't feel the need to talk about plot itself. It's great, and it became even better experiencing it again as an adult. But the real highlight of this version is the visuals. I cannot state enough just how beautiful this movie is in 4k HDR. The best way to describe it would be like watching a painting come to life, hop off the wall and then start dancing in front of you. It's a living painting. And if you have any experience whatsoever as an artist, this movie is a transcendental experience. You are able to make out all the pencil and brush work, and the colors are vibrant and powerful. I could rant about how good it looks for hours, but I'm going to cut this short and just ramble at my coworkers about how good it looks, even though I'm sure none of them know what 4k even is. This movie is absolute perfection, aside from the fact that when you pause the movie, a stupid indicator of where you are appears in the corner of the screen - which sucks, because I REALLY wanted to just pause and stare at the screen as if it were a painting - because most scenes in this movie are. 11/10, slightly upset that I'm going to be spending a LOT of money buying more Disney animation. Hey, so the live action "The Lion King" movie has come calling. You know what this means? It means that I need to re-watch the old school classic animated film again! Words cannot describe my love and excitement for this animated film! "The Lion King" is probably my all-time favorite animated movie and it is one that never got old no matter how old I get! I just had to get this beauty on DVD because I wanted to re-watch this movie OVER and OVER again until the day I DIE! But, here's a brief summary of the film if you want to know why this film is so AWESOME! The film started off with the birth of King Mufasa's son, Simba and because of this, Simba will be next in line to be the king of the Pride Lands. But unfortunately, Mufasa's evil brother Scar, wanted to be king himself and he starts making a plan on how to get rid of both Mufasa and Simba. When Scar finally succeeds in taking down Mufasa, Simba ends up running away from the Pride Lands and ended up with a warthog and a meerkat named Timon and Pumbaa. Now that Simba's past has caught up with him, Simba must take his rightful place on the throne and defeat his evil uncle Scar. "The Lion King" has been a TRUE childhood favorite of mine! It has everything that you could ever hope for in an animated movie: drama, action, beautiful animation, amazing characters, brilliant character development and of course, MATURE THEMES like the death of a parent and the importance of being a ruler that is important for both parents and children to learn from. Probably the best part about this movie were the characters and the music themselves as they were very well done. My favorite songs in this movie were "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," "Hakuna Matata," "Circle of Life," and "Be Prepared!" I also loved the character development being done with all the characters, especially with Simba himself as he had to learn that he can't run away from his problems and that he must face them head on. All in all, if you want to see a true animated classic film, then "The Lion King" is definitely the one movie that you just got to watch! It has everything that you could ever hope for in an animated film and it is one film that continues to be an all-time favorite of mine to this very day! Read more

I don't think there are many people who would feel that the film itself deserves any less than five-stars, so I'm mostly going to talk about the over all package. The film on blu-ray looks great. I loved watching it in high definition. The bonus features were extensive and interesting to watch. One day after watching the movie, I was up all night going through all of the bonus content, and there is a lot of it. It took me hours to go through it all, and I was quite pleased. Altogether, it's like having an extra movie about the entire making of the actual film. There were videos where they went through the creation process for the characters, what was involved in making the film, tricks they used, obstacles they encountered, how they overcame those obstacles, how the story developed over time, how the artists learned to draw the characters (hint: actual lions in the studio), how they chose music artist, how the music artist felt about working on the film and how they came up with the songs. They show the story boards, and early versions of a certain scene. I could go on and on. There are even videos discussing the making of the Broadway musical version of Lion King, and how that came to be. Even at the very late hours of night, I found it all to be quite interesting. As an amateur artist, I found some of these areas especially interesting because it gives you a good idea of what went into making this film. There were even "bloopers", haha. Keep in mind, that these bloopers are not real. They were purposely made to be released as a bonus feature just a little joke. Real bloopers like that just don't really happen in animated films because everything is looked over so carefully and everything has to be consciously drawn. They were funny. I don't know what else one could want to be included. This blu-ray disc had everything on it, and you could spend the majority of your day going through it. This is one of my favorite films, and I couldn't ask for much more. If you like this film, you should buy this. I can't think of any reason why you'd regret it. Read more
