I bought this item to tenderize more affordable, less tender cuts of beef. The price is in line with each of the attachments available for Kitchen Aid mixers, this one is less expensive. The tenderizer itself is a horizontal stainless steel case with that has 2 cylinder bars with very sharp teeth that rotate into each other. Meat is fed between the rollers. The tenderized meat falls from the bottom of rollers. It is made very well, not cheaply and it has a white plastic cover to protect your fingers from being shredded. I was zippin’ along marveling at the results, until a piece of meat stuck between the bars & wrapped itself around the 2 bars, the meat was shredded but good for dog food. I learned from this: Use uniform longer pieces of meat, not short ones. Be ready to use slight pressure to pull meat between rollers, immediately pulling it down before it has a chance to wrap around the rollers again. The rollers should roll into each other so meat is directed between them. It is easier than described. Cleaning takes an effort & patience, but the right tools help. We used to use a saran wrap cover and bang the heck out of the meat with a mallet. I never enjoyed that. I saw this unit and wondered how good it was. Well, the question has been answered. It works great! I got a large eye round from the store and cut them between a1/2 to 1" thickness and fed them into this machine. It went in seamlessly. I ran it through couple of more times and let me tell you, it was thoroughly flattened. I was able to cook these steaks and they were much better than before texturally. As for the flavor, well eye round is eye round. I think it is really food as an ingredient on a dish but not as good as a standalone steak. But this unit really delivers! Read more

I love this thing. At first I thought it was pretty expensive but it's made very well and the additional hand tool is super useful. I normally like my meat kind of well done, and thin with a lot of surface area. The crusty part is the best when there is a good barbecue sauce or rub. That can mean it might become tough, but the tenderizer tool creates a lot of tiny pockets to hold the flavors, and it cuts up the connective tissue to help keep it more tender. The power tool does a lot as well to soften the meat and thin it out to make cooking faster and thorough on the insides. I tested this out with chicken breasts, and some of the pieces were pretty thick. It says not to put anything over 3/4" in but I gave it a shot anyway, to put it through the wringer so to speak. One piece did get a little stuck because of the size of the opening, but most of the pieces went through very effortlessly. Man, this thing is very scary though, I would definitely use a tool if you need to help it through for any reason. The nodules could easily demolish a few fingers so I didn't want to go anywhere near it with my hands. I was very impressed with this device and will use it often. It made the meat just how I like it without having to use any type of hammer tenderizer. The rough surface area of the pieces held the seasonings very well and made wonderful thin patties for chicken sandwiches. I had no complaints at all, and it was very easy to clean. Like it says it's very durable with metal gears and should last for ages, to be handed down just like the original mixer that I got from my mother. It was perfectly compatible. My family buys a half every six months and some cuts on a steer are simply tougher than others. One of our favorite dishes is cube steak marinated in bulgogi sauce but making a cube steak can take a while and can be messy. Once you've bashed your 4th cutlet with the hammer, you're tired and you've made a mess. This gadget attaches to a Kitchenaid mixer and is basically a mini rock crusher. The drive gears are metal and the teeth of the rollers are no joke. The guide chute serves to keep fingers away from the rollers and to limit the thickness of the meat (about 3/4" -19mm). We tested this gadget with chicken breasts, round steak, and flank steak and were quite pleased with the results. Cleanup was pretty easy: hot water, dish soap, and a dish brush. The hand tenderizer is good for larger cuts that won't fit in the power device and for onsie-twosies. The blades can go through almost any cut and allows marinade to really get deep into the cut. It's a bit tedious to clean but the guard does a good job of protecting the user from the blades when it's stowed in the gadget drawer. This is a two piece set. Both pieces are very well made. The tenderizer attachment is all stainless steel. It attaches to your mixer as all KitchenAid attachments do. It can tenderizer a cut of meat ⅞” thick. It has a plastic guard that goes over the tenderizing spikes. The width of the piece of meat will depend whether or not you use the guard. I recommend using the guard. The two rows of meshing spikes are something you don't want any part of. Simply run the meat or poultry through until tenderized to your liking. No more hitting the meat with a mallet. It has a second tenderizer for use in cuts of meat too large to fit in the mixer device. This device you place on top of the meat and press downward. It has three rows of razor like spikes that pierce the meat. You simply move it over the meat. These two pieces of equipment are all you need to tenderize meat. Read more
