When I was a kid, my mom always had a pad like this with my dad's work logo on the top. "Please excuse my child for being absent yesterday" lol. I couldn't find anything similarly sized at the store when I was the one writing notes for school. And these are great for keeping phone notes, appointments, something for the kids to doodle on when out, or keep in your bag with a set of die for a quick game any time you are stuck in a waiting room, or keep in a game box. Sharpie goes through it at the beginning and end of a stroke when it's heaviest, so probably not a good choice for markers.
