Memorex MVD2047 Progressive Scan DVD Player Black

Terrible Purchase! I purchased the DVD player because it had an HDMI connection which I needed because my new 92" Mitsubishi TV had limited AV inputs. I tried the HDMI connection on multiple inputs on the new TV. The picture is fine, but there is no sound. I switched with another apparatus that was working fine and connected the DVD player to the same TV HDMI input---still no sound! I switched HDMI cables---still no sound! I have made several purchases from Amazon and have always been satisfied. However, two purchases in a row were terrible! (This and a non-working Field and Stream Dive watch were both garbage!) I had very bad luck with the Memorex MVD2047 DVD player. I ordered two different units, and the first one, the tray to put the CD in, would not open properly. The second/replacement one had a great picture, but no sound. I'm very sure there was a problem with the HDMI port. A friend of mine has a Memorex DVD player, lesser model with just the regular RCA type connection, and has had it for four years, no problem. That is what sold me on Memorex and the price was right. I did need the model with the HDMI connection for my HD TV. I did call the Memorex tech. dept. and they were very helpful in trying to get the player working...but it was just plain defective and they instructed me to return it. If the MVD2047 worked properly, I would have been very pleased. Read more

It is very user friendly and comes with a remote control that has the options consumers want. The MVD 2047 is an older model by today's standard but it was well made and allows DVD's new and old to play well. Great product and I hope to buy another one for a family member soon. Read more

I bought this dvd player roughly two years ago, and it just stopped working yesterday. For under $30, if you're just looking for something simple to play dvds on a regular basis, this is a great choice. We used it several times a day, every day and were pretty hard on it, but it was able to keep up. Now I am looking for the same one (they no longer sell it where I purchased it before, so I've been looking everywhere for it) because we loved ours so much. The low profile of this dvd player makes it attractive enough to leave out on our tv stand and is simple enough to use that young children can operate it (this is, of course, after it is hooked up). I am not sure why so many people had issues with it not coming with a remote as mine had the remote (although it was stuck in the packaging, so we spent some time looking for it). The remote is very basic, but as we only wanted to play dvds with our basic tv, it works fine for my family. Overall, this is a nice simple dvd player for the price---if you want bells and whistles though you'd probably want to choose a different one. Read more

Owned this DVD player for over a year with no problems at all. The ability to switch the DVD player from 4:3 to 16:9 to watch movies in both formats is why I chose this unit. I hook this to a 1040 DPI Panasonic TV via the HDMI cable and the movies look very good, the up-converting does work well. I paid over $80.00 for this unit, so $40.00 is a good bargin. Read more
