Ratchet belts are wonderful. Once I got my first one, I got rid of all my other belts, because they make other belts seem primitive. First, you can tighten them without having to undo anything. You just pull the buckle a little farther across. So you don't have to pick a hole and hope it's the right one! Second, they're not infinitely adjustable (because it's going to settle on a particular size), but it feels that way. So you can, with minimal effort, make it fit *exactly* to your waist, or hips, or wherever you wear your belt. This one has especially nice attention to detail, in the design of the buckle, the pattern and stitching of the belt, and so on. The leather feels like it's real, and the core is stiff enough to give it some structure -- although it's not stiff enough to be worn as a gun belt. The ratcheting section on this belt is shorter than on other belts that I have. So if you gain and lose a lot of weight, you might want to have a couple of these, cut to different lengths. The instructions are minimal, but the idea is straightforward: You cut the material you don't need from the *buckle* end of the belt, not the ratcheting end. Scissors aren't going to work. Use a utility knife with a brand new blade. A word to the wise: When you're taking it apart, pay special attention to the order in which you do things, because you'll want to do them in exactly the reverse order when putting it back together. Finally, before you put this on for the first time, make sure you know how to release the ratchet! There's nothing especially tricky about this one, but it's a little different from the one I wear every day, and there was a moment when I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it back off without looking up some instructions.
