Best Wireless Mouse I've used (updated 6/18/2013)

I've had quite a few wireless mice over the years. Honestly, the ones that have cone and gone the quickest have been Microsoft. I was REALLY hesitant to try this mouse, but the price was right, so I took a chance. Glad I did, because the is the best wireless mouse I've ever used. LOVE the power switch that lets me save batteries. The device fits my hand nicely, the buttons are well placed, and don't get in the way, even with my huge hands. The BlueTrack feature is really excellent. Another reviewer didn't like the wheel, and had a lot to say about it. I haven't had any issues with the wheel, or any other aspect of the device; have been entirely satisfied. Oh, and the purple color is very cool, too. June 18, 2013 update: I've used this mouse 5 days a week since I wrote the review in April of 2012. Yesterday (Monday, June 17, 2013) the rubber ring around the middle wheel disintigrated. I've been noticing that it was becoming difficult to turn the wheel - it would turn freely, then get 'sticky', where it would turn, but not freely. Then yesterday the rubber ring just came apart. It was actually quite gooey - quite a mess. The mouse still works, although the roller wheel function is a bit diminished. If the mouse was strictly for personal use, then I'd say just over 13 months of service wasn't so good. But honestly, I've put this device through some hard, extended use, and feel I got my money's worth and then some. FYI the mouse looks nearly as good today as the day I first used it. Still think this is an excellent mouse, and highly recommend it. Read more

MASSIVELY DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!!

I bought this product after skimming some Amazon reviews. I saw some mention of the USB transceivers failing, and saw that Amazon had Bluetooth transceivers listed all around the Microsoft Mouse listing. I assumed that people were buying cheap coverage of a known weakness in the mouse product. I ordered one with the mouse to cover failures. It passed USB enumeration and all Windows drivers installed correctly. It worked with my BT devices, but it does not work with the mouse I bought. It turns out that you MUST have a working genuine Microsoft USB dongle, or you're dead in the water. Google "microsoft wireless mobile mouse USB failure" and read the links to see that many hundreds of people are experiencing these failures. The dongles overheat and die, with some folks physically burning themselves when unplugging them. A few computers have been heat damaged as well. This massive problem has existed for years, so it is clear that Microsoft has done nothing to fix the problem. Their solution to having this problem is to just make it YOUR problem. The GOOD news is that Microsoft seems to be supplying replacements for the melted dongles. The BAD news is that the replacement units often fail in short order. Overall, I am satisfied with the mouse functionality, but the WIDESPREAD and REPEATED transceiver failures for this line of mice make them a line of MASSIVELY DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!! The mouse has a "3-year Limited Hardware Warranty". Here is the best support info that I found. I have not verified it, but several posters had success with this approach. Same receiver overheating issue and just called them at 800-360-7561. They set me up with a replacement. They didn't ask me for my receipt and all they needed was the PID from under the mouse. One tip: Keep your original mouse even if you receive a replacement. The warranty is on the original and not on the replacement. Canada: 800-933-4750. If you do not wish to endure the mess documented above, buy only non-Microsoft wireless products. Too bad, the mouse itself is an OK product. Read more

Wonderful travel mouse

Great size, fits the hand well, back and forward buttons, picks up nearly any surface for tracking movements and very smooth. The USB receiver is small and is easily able to be left in. I've tried other wireless mice and came back to this one. EDIT: There seems to be a known issue with these where they stop working properly. The mouse is not recognized and the USB transmitters becomes burn your fingers hot when plugged in. Mine failed within a year. There are multiple reports of this when Googled. I can't recommend these at this point. I will be contacting Microsoft for warranty work. Read more

Nice mouse but inconvenient back/forward buttons

I bought this mouse because I have a Logitech mouse with 5 buttons for my desktop that I love. The placement of the buttons on the side, which I use for forward/back on the internet, are placed too high and too far foward to be comfortable. They are also very stiff. I also agree with other reviews about the smooth-scroll wheel. I would prefer some light 'clicking' to completely control the scroll. Other than that, I like it. It does have all the functions I was looking for including side scrolling for spreadsheets. Not too small to cramp my longer hands/fingers. USB connector is very tiny and unobtrusive. Read more
