Great belt, the ratcheting action allows for a perfect fit, but a WARNING about daily use!

Scott TurnerFebruary 25, 2016✓ Verified purchase

This belt is great, I've never had one with a ratcheting buckle before. The backside of the belt has a flexible, tough plastic insert with indentations, sort of like a larger version of a zip-tie. The buckle has a corresponding ratchet that quietly clicks through each indentation in a one-way action until you stop pulling the belt through. The leather and buckle look nice, as well. I've only had it for a while, so can't speak to longevity, but I plan to come back in the future and update about longer-term use. Now to the warning - my belt didn't come with instructions (or I couldn't find them), and figuring out putting on the belt is pretty instinctive, *however* it is not immediately clear how to release the ratchet so you can pull the belt back out through the buckle. The trick is that there is a small lever on the bottom edge of the buckle on the right-hand side, and you pivot that lever outwards to release the ratchet. I find that it helps to both pull the lever outwards while also pushing the belt further in (tightening), which seems to help 'release' the belt from the ratchet so you can pull it out. When I first got the belt I tried it on and it fit great, then I got distracted and didn't figure out how to loosen it until it became a...well..urgent biological issue. My advice to you is to practice taking the belt off when you're not under pressure to be sure you get how it works, otherwise you might end up being a gunslinger who gets hung up on the draw and ends up shooting himself in the foot (if you know what I mean and I think you do). Fortunately for me I was able to get it figured out in time to avoid a catastrophe, but it was close, kind of like those movie scenes with the big red ticking digital bomb countdown timer. I defused it just in time, but it was a cliffhanger. Bottom line is, this is a great belt. It's really not hard to unbuckle at all, but it's just a unique mechanism so it'll take a couple of test repetitions to get the hang of it. Read more

Sturdy, beautiful belt. One of the best you’ll ever get.

This is the first belt that I’ve ever bought that does not bend or crunch up in the middle of it, if you have a belly and you have a belt that when you sit down the belt crunches up, this one does not do that it’s solid. I love the way that it tightens up with the belt buckle and the mechanisms incorporated in it overall gray belt. Read more

This is the best belt my fiance has own.

My fiance loves to watch Shark Tank and one night he seen the episode with this Mission Belt and he made a comment that he really wanted to get this belt. I was excited that I was able to find it and get it for him. My fiance was also excited when he found out that it that he was getting one. He liked that there was no holes on the belt because of the ratchet system. To me, without the holes on the belt it looks more professional. My fiance said he loves his new belt and has been using it every day for work. At first, we didn't know how the latch to take the belt off worked. we read the directions that came with it the belt but still couldn't get it. We finally figured it out that you have to turn the latch and pull at the same time. But, once we figured that out this Mission belt has work perfectly each day. My fiance would definitely buy more of this belt and he said this is the best belt he has own. Read more

Awesome belt buckle that has a lot of good qualities, a few bad ones.

The best belt I have ever owned hands down. Essentially it is really just a belt buckle, The belt leather is interchangeable/replaceable. You could, hypothetically speaking, have a different belt for every day of the week if you wanted to by switching between belt leathers. Can be somewhat easily trimmed down to fit any size or resize if you lose weight. Want to make sure you cut it straight though as it can be somewhat of a pain if the end does not seat squarely into the end of the buckle that has the retention spikes (for want of a better term). I will never by a traditional belt again after this, they are just too primitive and restrictive. The only annoying thing I have found so far is that after some use the teeth on the belt leather start to wear down a bit and can possibly cause some slippage. The ratchet tab also feels a tiny bit flimsy during operation. Read more

Great belt, a couple of reservations

Here was my first review: I love this belt--the 1/4-inch adjustability is great, it looks good, and the length was adjustable--I got the small and still had to chop off 5 inches, but it fits very well now (I have a 28" waist). (You can cut the end that goes into the buckle so that no one can see that it's been cut.) The above review was a 5-star review of a blue belt. I liked it so much that I purchased a black and a brown as well. I've removed one star for two reasons: 1) Both the black and brown belts are much bigger than 28". I can cut them to size, but I can't wear them at all until I take the time to do so (for some reason, the blue was actually sized correctly). 2) The black belt was obviously a returned item. It has a small scratch on the buckle, and was not packaged as well. I'm keeping it because it I know I'll end up scratching the buckle myself at some point, but it's an annoyance. Read more

Works for women, too!

Great belts! After buying one for my son, then one for my husband, then one for my dad - ALL of whom just love it - I decided to risk getting one for myself. I am a petite woman and was concerned about the width of the belt. I bought the 35mm belt in both red & black. The belt is wider than I'm used to, but just fits into the belt loops of my jeans (sz 2-4). The adjustability of the belt is wonderful because I can open it just a tiny bit if the waist of my jeans happens to fall in a spot where the width of the belt is uncomfortable. Presto! Comfy again, fashionable belt, and my jeans stay put! Definitely recommend Mission Belts. Read more
