This lighter works great at home in my garage. However I had difficulties getting it to work ( as others complained about) when we went camping in the mountains at 7000 feet. Thinking about why they failed when camping, it occurred to me that it is simply that the lighters are designed for conditions at sea level and that at higher elevations the lower air pressure, oxygen level and temperature will make it more difficult for a butane lighter to ignite and maintain a flame. Nothing is wrong with the lighter - it turns out a standard butane lighter is only good up to ~6500ft and not work above ~9000ft. Surprisingly the old flint Bic lighters reportedly will work if they are warm and the fuel valve is turn all the way up. Some manufacturers do make high altitude butane lighters if you want a reliable lighter for the mountains. Read more
Don’t waste your money. Totally false advertising. These don’t light at all when bent, twisted, or angled down. They only light when held with the handle down, tubing totally straight, and tubing pointed upwards. Then it takes at least 5-10 clicks to get it to light at all. When it does light, it’s like a 1/4” flame (on the highest flame setting). The flame extinguishes itself within 1-2 seconds. I bought a 4-pack for $30-something, and they all work (or fail to work) the exact same way. $30+ in the garbage and still stuck using regular matches. I bought these for lighting our woodstove, bbq, and campfires when more reach makes things safer. But they don’t work as advertised at all. Read more

I thought these would be great for lighting the gas grill, and they would IF THEY WORKED! I got them to light indoors, barely, the flame is pretty feeble even turned all the way up, but outdoors in the cold they won't light at all. Full shelter, no wind, and not a bit of wind. I though maybe it was just one that was defective but no, this product is just plain worthless. VERY disappointed. Read more
