MSR Quick 2 Camping Cook Set

We bought this set to take backpacking and camping with us and it performs flawlessly. You can boil water amazingly quick. We have the MSR Pocket Rocket (Also an amazing product) and this set can boil water or heat up anything you want in a flash. The weight is (obviously) a bit more than some of the titanium sets out there, but really is perfect for everything that you get. The pots are very easy to clean up, just make sure and not use metal cookware to stir anything so you don't scratch up the non stick finish. The mugs are great for keeping your drink warm or cold, and are a very comfortable shape that fits naturally in your hand. The set stacks together perfectly and has enough room to keep collapsible sporks or whatever you use inside. The detachable handle fits both pots snugly and very securely. If you have both pots going at once you can easily move the handle between both to do whatever cooking needs to be done. I got this pan to go with the MSR Flex Quick Skillet. It stacks very nicely and snuggles right into the pan. One pot is non-stick and the nonstick surface is good. Washes easy and I use plastic scrubbie covered sponge with no problems. The cookset only comes with one handle so this second one from the pan is helpful for the second pot. Handle is steady when the pan is loaded.The whole set is very lightweight. I think it will hold up nicely.The plates/bowls are deep and sturdy. The mugs kept liquids toasty. The lids are nice and snug. The sippy whole is ok, I'd prefer if it was on the other side. The pot lid handle stays cool and the strainer is a good addition. This system is great! Four of us went backpacking and because we were willing to eat out of the same pot this quick 2 system was more than enough for all of us. The pots heat up easily and seems sturdy (only used once with bamboo utensils) and the handle worked great. Do have to be careful when unlocking handle that it is not hot. The red plastic piece survived low heat burning (we were cooking with kerosene in 30 degree weather, flames were orange with lots of black smoke). Cups were perfect too, even with boiling hot water in them I had no issue holding it. The cover keeps the drink hot for long enough because I still burned my tongue after my tea had been sitting around for over 15 min. Lid is really convenient because it could be used as strainer and the big pot has a little hook to keep lid on. Overall weight is less than three pounds and it takes up minimal space for the amount of items included. I'd say this set is good for at least two people but probably will work for two couples. The set is well-built, nests perfect, and contains everything needed to cook/eat comfortable for 2, for however long is necessary. It's light enough to pack, although would take up considerable space. BUT,if you can car camp, or don't have other items, or can even lash it to the exterior of the pack, no sweat. MSR, as usual, designed and built a great product with this set. UPDATE: After several months of field use, I love this set even more. My wife and I, at home, use MSR equipment regularly, which is why I bought this set for my East African deployment. I couldn't be more happy with it. From roasted bushmeat with local herbs and spices, to red wine and "jungle juice", I've had better meals during weeks in the bush than at 4-star restaurants at home. The set packs easily, cooks evenly, cleans easily and impresses all around. I've cooked over an MSR stove (with various fuels), charcoal, and even on the block of an overheated engine; the kit remains durable and serviceable. Even though I'm a single element in the bush, I often find myself having to carry "dead weight" (field operators know what I mean) and being prepared to serve 2 has made many comfortable nights for people who would otherwise have been miserable. After recently hiking back country in Yellowstone and going on a few local campsites in Maryland I must say that this cookset is awesome. It is light and is extremely well made. It is aluminum and heats extremely fast when boiling water or even cooking food. My one gripe is that there is no second lid for the smaller pot. A second would be useful when out in the wild when you are using one pot for boiling water and another for cooking other dishes to prevent insects from getting in either pot and/or prevent the smell of the food from traveling too far which is a major concern in bear country. Pro: 1. Lightweight. 2. Perfect for 1-2 people and multiple sets are good for larger groups. 3. Transfers heat well for boiling water or heating food. 4. Insulated cups keep hands from getting burnt when drinking coffee, tea, or soups. Con: 1. No lid for the smaller pot. Conclusion: I'd definitely recommend this set to anyone both for themselves, for a gift or as a backup set for emergencies when items may have to be cooked over a flame. Read more
