After a year and four months, I'm very happy with my American MSR WhisperLite International mountain stove. I use it with car fuel (gasoline extra) and have had no problems to date. It's a lightweight and reliable stove in the mountains. A 590 ml (20 oz) MSR fuel bottle lasts me three days in the sacred wilderness. It's very easy to maintain, as the stove can be completely disassembled. I highly recommend this stove. Read more

This is my second MSR International stove. The wife put the first one somewhere, which means that is, in, all probability will never be seen again, thus the purchase of another stove. the stove was advertised as used, but it looks brand new and functions properly. It was shipped promptly and arrived several days earlier than expected. Read more
Swapped from home made alcohol stove to this which is definitely heavier, though not heavy, but so much more efficient. Read all other reviews which seem to be very accurate so will not duplicate but a few points to note: 1. This stove does not burn alcohol. Tried, swapped nozzles, nothing worked. Incidently alcohol readily available In USA, and Spain but not in England Nov. 2013 - weird. 2. Package comes with foldable aluminium wind protector, and circular base, nozzle for kerosene use, change out tool, pump oil and spare O ring. 2. As mentioned gasolene produces a lot of soot at the pre heat stage. Solved problem by using alcohol for this pre burner ignition, then turn on gasolene feed when it is hot. I use a syringe full of alcohol to fill pre heater cup. 3. You get greater efficiency using high octane gas - lamp oil works but better to use regular kerosene. 4. Don't risk taking unit, especially fuel bottle if previously used, as hand luggage when flying. Sometimes OK but you are at the mercy of inspectors and there is no appeal and by then it is too late to put it in your checked luggage. The only reason I did not assign five stars is because stove does not burn alcohol which I much prefer. Read more
This is a great stove, and after actually owning it and using it I feel like it was a good buy. We have the msr pocket rocket already, which is awesome and probably better for backpacking, though less appealing if you want to be a show off backpacker, but this stove does provide versatility with fuel types and uses less fuel than you would think. I used the 30 oz bottle, white stove gas - burns similarly to gasoline BC of similar octane rating - and it basically burned 24 Oz's of fuel while boiling 6.5 gallons of water. That wasn't all at once but over a five day trip for three people. Pretty slick if you ask me. It does smell a bit due to the nature of removing the cap and pump system, which offended my dad's sensibilities, but he got over it and thinks it's alright. He still loves the pocket rocket and butane. They take up less space and are actually just as sturdy as this. Read more
My late father the Scoutmaster told me to buy this stove and I bought one in 1984. It still works but I liked the new feature of being able to use different fuels. It's nice to buy anything that is so well made it will last 40+ years and my hat is off to MSR. You can go to the top of the mountain knowing there will be hot food for dinner without fail! Read more
So far so good, was given to me as a gift by my loving wife before my upcoming cross-Sierra trip. My hiking group tested it out last weekend to prove functionality before hitting the trail, and all worked just as it should. I will post a more detailed review once our trip is complete. I do not anticipate using anything other than white fuel, so I will not be able to comment on that feature of this stove. By the way, this is not an ultralight stove, if that's the kind of packing you do. For me, the ability to easily cook anything at varying temperatures with an easy to maintain, dead on reliable stove outweighs the extra ounces I can save by going with a tablet stove. Read more
