Quality product, tested for heavy metals
Long, but thorough review for those concerned about heavy-metals. Summary: they test regularly for heavy metals, dissolves thoroughly, no grit and no after taste. Been taking collagen for about a year. Initially started with this product, then switched to Sports Research, then Alaya, and back again to Nature's Plus. With all the chatter about lead (heavy metals), microplastics etc., I felt doomed in my search for a clean - or at least cleaner - product. Via email, I contacted the companies about heavy metals and the only company to respond was Nature's Plus, which doesn't surprise me. Years ago, I managed a nutrition shop and Nature's Plus was (and is) a best selling product. Most moms I know still trust Nature's Plus for protein powders. As for quality and taste, there's no grit, nor after taste with this collagen, and it dissolves completely in hot coffee, but unlike the other brands, this does seem to re-coagulate as coffee cools (though still warm), it becomes a sort of "glop" that can be difficult to swallow if you're sensitive to textures. So drink it while its hot!! If you're still reading and you'd like to know the official statement from Nature's Plus regarding heavy-metals, here it is: "Thank you for your e-mail expressing your concern over the presence of lead or other heavy metals in the products you've purchased; I can tell you categorically that we share a deep concern for the safety and purity of our products. Let me begin by stating that none of the products we sell were mentioned in the recent articles published about the presence of lead and/or heavy metals in protein supplements. Perhaps the information provided here will account for the fact that we were not mentioned. Because everything that grows in natural soil contains some lead or heavy metal content (I'll explain that later), we have all ingredients in all of our products tested. This ensures that all of our products are below the limits set by the USFDA and other regulatory bodies. More importantly, it ensures that our products can be used safely and confidently. Besides the effort we put into checking the ingredients we put into our products, we also test the products after manufacture, and before they are sent out into the marketplace, to ensure that there is no unsafe cumulative amount of lead or other heavy metals in those products. In addition to our robust quality program, we also check on ourselves by randomly selecting products to be tested and verified by unaffiliated third-party laboratories that are fully accredited with the expertise to perform the tasks that they undertake. To expand upon my earlier statement that there is lead or heavy metal in everything that's grown in the ground, please understand that this is not a new phenomenon. It has always been the case. What has changed is our ability to detect and quantify heavy metals. While the new technologies shed light on some of the most undesirable aspects of foods and supplements, they also give us previously unimaginable abilities to scrutinize every detail of a food or supplement. That's why we've outfitted our laboratories with the latest, cutting-edge laboratory equipment, capable of detecting even the faintest levels of heavy metals and other substances. This allows us to make products with unprecedented purity. As I mentioned earlier in this letter, we share your concern and we've worked to allay such concerns for over 50 years, by producing the cleanest supplements possible. Thank you for your time and continued support." Read more
