These shorts are slim fitting. My daughter usually wears a size 10/12 and has a little room at her waist. With these they fit slim in leg area as well as waist. I would recommend going a size up and using the adjustable waist line to tighten if needed. This is the only reason I give them 4 starts instead of 5. They are great quality, look sharp, and neat. They are straight leg fitted. Went to the top of the knee. My daughter wore them for band and said they were not hot and felt light even though the material is a little thick.
