After breaking our second plastic consumer-grade french fry cutter within 3 years, we decided to upgrade to this commercial grade fry cutter. Having worked for both food service and food manufacturing companies, I am familiar with commercial- and industrial-grade cutting equipment, and had used New Star cutters in food manufacturing laboratories and research kitchens for cutting potatoes. As I expected, this cutter is well-constructed, and with such a long handle for leverage, the force required to push a potato through the grid is significantly less than that needed for the smaller consumer cutters. The attachable suction cups grip the countertop firmly, allowing me to place the cutter next to the kitchen sink and eject the cut potatoes directly into the sink. Hint: For best results, fill the sink about 1/4-full with cold water, and add 1/4 tsp of citric acid (available in the canning section at the grocery store). This will keep the fries from turning grey or orange caused by enzymes activated on the cut surfaces of the potatoes, even after removing the cut potatoes from the water. My family especially likes the variety of cutting heads shipped with this combination package, allowing three different sizes of french fries and two sizes of potato wedges, also popular with my family. The cutter is a bit pricier than consumer models, but for us the improved ease and durability are well worth the cost. We are using this cutter once or twice per week. The only thing that I would like to see different in this design would be the ability to remove the pusher grid plate without needing a Phillips screwdriver; however, this is only a small inconvenience. Since the cutting blade plates are already removable without tools, it would be nice (and consistent from a product design standpoint) to have both plates removable without tools. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this New Star cutter for anyone who likes to make home-made fried potatoes. Read more

I LOVE this machine! I adore French fries, but only when they’re good, and the key to good fries (for me) is uniform sizing of the type that’s almost impossible to achieve with hand cutting. I chose this particular machine because it comes with. 1/4” cutter blade, whereas most of the home French fry cutters available only go down to 3/8” or 1/2” (I like my fries thin). The suction cups are seriously effective. I’m not going to lie: it takes some muscle to get things moving, but as a 72 year-old woman, I’ve always been able to manage it. Helpful hints: if you put this on a standard-height kitchen counter, use a step stool or chair to get better leverage on the handle (I’m 5’10”, and even I have to do this). It’s probably easier to use as a wall-mount, but I didn’t want this large chunk of metal hanging off my wall. I also learned to cut a small piece off the end that goes up against the cutter blade, which makes it easier to get started. It’s very heavy (it’s all cast iron), but easy to clean (most of the time, I just run it under the kitchen faucet and don’t even have to take the blade out). This thing will last a lifetime, and I highly recommend it if you’re serious about fries. Read more

I loved the tool for its sturdiness and a solid appearance. First of all, it does the job. HUGE russet potatoes are cut in one go, no need to half them. You will need a bit of extra effort with sweet potatoes, but it also works (I use a double push technique). No problem with slices being stuck at the exit of the blades. Suction cups are holding the unit securely. Cleaning is not too much hassle, as long as you have a screwdriver handy to remove the pusher (this could have been improved by installing wing nuts, instead of screws) One thing I was not too fond of: the handle is not securely led by the axes, wobbling side to side, as all 3 axes holding it in place are way too long for the width of the junctions. I will have to get a set of washers to install on each side to make the whole thing a better fit. Other than keeping in mind that the frame is truly huge for a regular kitchen, I would recommend it to all home-made french fries lovers! Read more

The media could not be loaded. Ok so I just got my potatoe cutter…I picked the green and I absolutely love the color…this cutter feels super sturdy…. It was really easy to put together only took about 5 minutes…. I’m giving it 5 stars even tho I haven’t used it yet…if I use it and see it’s not great then I’ll update the stars and let you know the cons but for right now the 5 stars are staying ♥️ Read more

This thing works great. Comes with everything you need. I have not done any wedge fries but have no doubt it will slice great too. It does take some force to cut the potato, but you are cutting it all at once. Speed is the best way to use this I have found. I cut a small flat on the end as they suggest and kind of get it started in the blades, back off a bit and pull fast. If it was mounted on a wall it would be really fast but I can't do that in my kitchen. Wish the pusher snapped in rather than two screws as it would be much easier to clean. I can do five faster than I could slice one. Seems very well made. I have a stone counter and the suction cups really hold well. I usually make 3/8" fries but the 1/2" cutter requires less force and the 1/4" cutter more force. Very happy with this cutter. Read more
