Comfortable, and has a high quality feel under the hand. Smaller foot print than I pictured which is a benefit for being able to keep it on my keyboard tray. The Nulea M512 works VERY WELL with Apple devices, but benefits from being used with a Linear Mouse (free) or another 3rd party mouse driver like Steermouse. I have always uses Kensington track balls but when I saw this I wanted to try it out and it's less than half the cost of a Kensington and wireless so I thought it might be a good addition for travel. Well, it tracks very well, though I had to go to the website to get the online manual to figure out how to connect it to my Mac. The manual in the box has such tiny print I didn't even bother trying to read it. It's comfortable to use and the buttons work fine, though are not really programmable like Kensingtons are. The thing for me that makes it only 3 stars is the scroll wheels on the sides, I found them difficult to use, non-intuitive and too different than what I was used to. If you have never used a trackball, and I highly recommend them, this might be a perfect fit, definitely worth trying because it is easy on the had and the has a large track ball. But if you are used to using a Kensington my guess it that it's won't be a good fit for you. I don’t know what this is about your customer support, but they did reach out to me, saying that I was unsatisfied, even though my lack of satisfaction was because of my own preferences not anything wrong with the device. Not as hard to use as people think it is. I read so many reviews saying it took them weeks or a month to become proficient at using it. Maybe it is just because I have used a trackpad on a laptop for a while, but I think it is incredibly easy to make precise movements with the trackball and incredibly easy to learn how to use. The sensitivity can be adjusted, and the buttons are just perfect for anyone with flexor tendonitis like I had. I'm able to press the left click with my thumb instead of my pointer and it's a game changer. I have a job where I have to be absolutely sure that I'm connected but also wires are cumbersome, so I enjoy that there is the USB dongle option rather than only a Bluetooth option. It functions perfectly and I'm about to get a second one for my home office after seeing what a difference it's made at work. Read more

TL;DR... 1) Really nice build quality, esp. for the price. 2) Difficult (for me!) to use scroll wheels without accidentally clicking mouse buttons. 3) Settings buttons (L/R handedness, DPI, communication protocol) are too easy to press when picking up the device. I had very high hopes for this device. It's a great price, and I *really* liked the side-mounted scroll wheel idea. I'm going to give it more time because I want to see if I can adjust and make it work for me. If that does happen, I'll come back and change the rating. But I'm only giving three stars for now. Initial build quality is quite nice. Even if the price was a fair bit higher, I'd still think the feel/action of the trackball, buttons, and the two scroll wheels are quite good. My biggest gripe is that there's not a good place to anchor my fingers when trying to use the side-mounted scroll wheels. When I go to scroll, I'm using either my thumb or my pinky to move the scroll wheel (depending on whether I'm using the wheel on the left or the right). I always want to anchor the opposite fingers on that hand somewhere -- partly because this gives me better leverage and control whilst manipulating the scroll wheel, but also because moving the scroll wheels often causes the trackball to move or even lift up off the desk. The most natural place to anchor my fingers is on the face of the trackball, which is right on top of the buttons. This regularly causes me to inadvertently click all over the shop. My second gripe is that I'm constantly wanting to pick this thing up to adjust its position. Nearly every time I do this, I end up hitting the three adjustment buttons on the upper-left corner (the buttons for DPI, L/R handedness, and wireless connection type). Hitting the DPI button is especially aggravating because there's no indication showing which setting is currently in place, meaning you can't easily click the button again a couple times to cycle back to your original setting. Instead, you have to keep hitting the button while moving the trackball and monitoring how much on-screen movement you notise. If you are planning on using this in any kind of scenario where you have to pick it up regularly, it could be quite aggravating. I'm imagining a laptop user that travels regularly and I could see these buttons being pressed every time you pick it up. This device can only be used wirelessly, meaning the only way your computer will "see" this trackball is either via bluetooth or using the 2.4ghz dongle. The product description gave me the impression that you can also use a purely wired USB connection, but this is not the case. Perhaps I misinterpreted the product listing, But this matches both my real-world experiences even after a close reading of the booklet that came with the device. You can leave it plugged in via USB to power the trackball, but the communications will never go over that connection. This thing is fairly large. I've been a trackball user for many years, including more than a decade with the Kensington Expert Mouse. That is not a small trackball, and this unit is noticeably bigger than the Kensington. Probably not a big deal for most people, but I have a split keyboard and like to put my trackball in between the two halves. With this trackball, I have to spread those two halves out a bit more than I would have preferred. Most people probably won't care, but this may be something to keep in mind. Read more

One way or another, I've been using the trackball since about 1990. I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands. Most of the time, this has been a thumb track ball. Although there was one from Microsoft that they no longer make that I loved. That was a finger trackball, and that is definitely my preference. The Nulea M512 it is exceptionally smooth. It almost took a little time to get used to how easy it was and how effective it is. I will also admit the one thing I miss from my previous trackball is the programmable buttons. At the same time, the M512 costs less than half of what I paid for that one. For the usability and cost, it's a home run. Read more
