This is an improvement over the more basic collagen available from the same brand. It has more comprehensive nutritional portfolio without adding unnecessary fillers. The chocolate version is a bit gritty and does not fully dissolve in a 10-12 oz. cup of hot coffee. The last is also not great. The unflavored dissolves quicker and completely though. Unless you really want an unremarkable chocolate taste, just get the unflavored one and save yourself the 10 calories in the morning. UPDATE. Well, here I am again! Changing this review once more. I use this brand for a lot of my supplements but I am rethinking that after my experience with this collagen. I had been drinking bitter coffee, not understanding why. My husband had gone to decaf so I was the only one tasting it and it was so bitter! I’ve tried lots of different collagens and have never had a bitter taste so it never occurred to me it was the that. My SIL came and he didn’t notice it, I still didn’t get it! Yesterday I was thinking I just wasn’t going to drink coffee anymore! This morning, I needed coffee so I tried it with no collagen…NO BITTERNESS!!!! I’m not happy that I wasted almost $40 or that I have had a couple of weeks of horrible coffee! I’m done with this brand. Another odd thing, I honestly don’t remember ever ordering this, I was on a auto ship with another brand & can’t imagine why or how I would have done this but I decided to try it since it came, and it came WITH my other brand!! I have to add to the review because I think it’s important to know. Not only do I not love what I already mentioned, but I have realized that it is not dissolving completely and If I try to swish it around with the last bit of coffee, it doesn’t dissolve and is very gritty and a little bitter. I have only been taking this for a week or so, so I can’t do an honest review but I did want to make the comment that it has a lot of discolored powder in it. Collagen is always hard to review since you don't see immediate effects, but I mix this in my coffee with the Nutricost MCT Oil Powder and it doesn't add any negative taste whatsoever. Putting aside the arguments around collagen supplements and their long-term advantages, this supplement misses the mark for me in its practical usage. I have used Vital Proteins for years in an on-off cycle. Vital Proteins collagen can be used in shakes and mixed in yogurt, but my favorite use is in HOT coffee. It adds richness and dissolves completely and easily. It does not affect the taste. It takes my coffee from a 8 to a 10, whether or not you believe in the efficacy of collagen in supporting joint health. I genuinely like Nutra cost products. I have several in my kitchen. Their grass-fed whey protein is absolutely amazing, and so is their Casein protein powder. I also use Nutricost creatine. But the collagen is not as good a product. I’m thinking it’s because of some of the animal sourcing of the product is marine, but in hot coffee it will coagulate and clump and taste funny. This makes it less palatable to me so I won’t be using it anymore. If you only use it in cold foods you should be fine! Read more
