I really like the glass mat but the "tapered edge" is very slight and might not be worth the extra cost. I ordered the 48x48 ultra clear with tapered edge. The mat is gorgeous, thick, and very sturdy. I don't wear shoes in my house so I'm always either barefoot, wearing socks, or wearing slippers. I have yet to slip on the surface of the mat... it is not slippery. It will slide on your carpet if you don't use the bumpers, so keep that in mind. I am using the largest bumpers and so far they're doing a great job of keeping the mat in place. The only thing that about this product that didn't meet my expectations is the tapered edge. The picture in the listing shows a pretty substantial taper. The taper is important to me because I don't want to stub my toes along the edge. The best description I can provide about the taper is that it's basically just a smooth rounded edge that is 5mm long (surface) and 2mm tall (side). The photo in the listing shows the taper going all the way to the bottom of the mat. In reality it only tapers down 2mm in height. Buyer beware. My shipment arrived with a slightly damaged box and one of the edges of the box was completely open/unsealed. The glass mat is packed in the box very securely and did not sustain any damage. However the paper instruction guide and the rubber bumpers were missing. I used the Contact Seller feature to reach out to Better Bevel (the seller). The representative responded the next business day and offered to ship me the missing bumpers. They arrived within 2 days. Kudos to the seller for a quick resolution. Read more

I have high pile carpet and ive been trying to find some sort of mat to protect the carpet but still allow my chair to move freely. Ive tried the rubber mats that claim they can work on high pile, ive tried the bamboo mats. being honest, i never looked for glass because Amazon always shows you $300+ mats and thats outside my range. After spending $120 on a bamboo thinking it would work, it didnt, so I realized ill just have to shovel out $300 for a glass to solve my problem. After searching I found a few within the $100-$200 range and I figured id give it a shot. This one weighed the most so I just presumed it probably had more quality to it. I will update this if anything changes, but honestly, this seems like the biggest bang for your buck you can get if you are in the same situation as me. The quality is fantastic, the shipping/packaging material was amazing. Super easy to get the bumpers on (the anti-slide feature) which does work great, It hasnt budged once since I placed it down. And its crystal clear (bought the ultra-clear one). A+ to this company for having a super reasonable priced mat that seems to match the quality of the $300 ones. Now, company, dont go and jack the price up because of this, this is a very niche market and, in my opinion, you are miles ahead of your competition. Great job! Read more

So much better than the kind you purchase at staples. Glass is way to go. Put felt tabs on chair legs. It does slide a small bit and therefore give it a 4.5 Read more

I have needed chair mats for my office desk and computer set-up. The "plastic" ones worked very well, but they don't last. I am not heavy at all, so that's not the cause. The one I have been using developed cracks that causes the chair to get stuck, so I decided it was time to replace it. It lasted about 7 years of daily use. I decided to get a glass mat so that I would never have to replace it again. This one was it. So far it is working very well and I am hopeful that it will stay that way. The only issues I have are these: 1) it is a little too smooth, so my chair moves too much unintentionally. However, I think I can adjust, so this will not be a problem. 2) The edges of my "plastic" mats could be put under the desks so that I got better coverage. Also, they had a lip that went under the main desk. This mat cannot be made to work that way, and so, I do not have any support under my desks. This is a little inconvenient. 3) Finally, as a plus, this mat makes the carpet more visible and is less intrusive than my other mats. Only time will tell if it was a good decision on my part to go with glass rather than one of the "plastic" mats. This mat does not have any prongs to keep it from moving on the carpet; it stays there because it is very heavy. Read more

This mat is exactly what is presented—size, quality, durability, professional look. It meets these expectations, however it is very slippery on plush new carpet. A solution that holds the mat in place will be needed and I am looking. Read more
