I have had this DVD changer for less than a year now, but I haven't had any problems with it and don't expect to. In fact, I LOVE THIS THING! So far I have only used it to play regular DVDs, so I don't know about JPEG or other media mentioned by at least one other reviewer. The picture and sound quality are excellent and the unit itself functions smoothly and quietly, changing and playing up to six discs flawlessly. The front panel display provides just the right amount of information without being cluttered. There is a great feature which allows you to mark where you want to stop playback and return to that same spot later, even after shifting discs and turning off the unit. This is really useful when trying to keep track of several different episodes of different shows over time. The remote control is one of the best I've seen, being well laid out, just the right size and with readable, positive-feeling buttons. I haven't tested the limitations of how far away it can be from the unit, etc. - it isn't an issue for me. One thing that could be an issue for some is that the case is wider than average (it is also pretty deep - see the dimensions and make sure it will fit) but the height is fine. Just purchased the Onkyo DV CP702 to replace my Onkyo CV C-601. The picture quality of the new unit is excellent, resulting primarily from progressive scan circuity. Audio playback of CD's is also improved over my previous model. There are two problems with this unit based on evaluating it for the past couple of weeks. First, the remove control sensor has a limited vertical and horizontal field. I find myself having to hit remove buttons more than once to get a response back from the DVD player. The biggest disappointment is in Onkyo's inability to play JPEG files. I loaded a CD with .JPEG files, and although the Navigator came up and worked as it should, when it came to looking at an individual picture of starting a slide show, the unit scanned each picture line by line, resulting in it taking over 30-seconds for a complete picture to be displayed. I contacted what Onkyo calls Customer Support. After waiting 21-minutes to be helped, I was told by the Representative of the company "that's the way it works, and there's nothing you or we can do about it". Since Onkyo is obviously aware of the limitations of this DVD player in presenting .JPEG file ls in a "reasonable" amount of time, I believe it has a responsibility to report this to customers in their product description, so that customers would be able to use this information in making a choice as to spending $165 for this DVD player, that it some respects cannot perform things like playing .JPEG files as good as a $60 JVC or Sony (entry level) unit is capable of doing. I will be returning this because dissatisfaction of the product and misrepresentation on the part of the company as to its capabilities. I've been a loyal Onkyo owner for nearly a decade, however, this experience will result in my having to reevaluate my trust and confidence in Onkyo as a viable manufacturer of consumer electronic equipment. I bought my DV-CP702 DVD Chnager about two years ago at suggestion of Best Buy salesman. Works well for DVD video but I have just tried to run a jpeg photo slide show and each picture is scanned line by line, Taking baout 30 seconds per picture. It's useless for jpeg slide shows that are claimed in the manual. A very inexpensive DVD player does a better job with this so I question quality control. I'll be very careful with my next Onkyo purchase. Read more
