I purchased this DVD player in May 2012 and it is still going strong! The 6-DVD capacity is great and the playback quality is FANTASTIC! Of all the devices that I have purchased — VCRs, VCR-DVD combo players, DVD players, and DVRs — this is the BEST! The connection options made it a perfect addition as I can connect using my TV’s Colorstream feature, which provides HD display, while having other devices connected as well — Roku and Bluray connected via HDMI and a DVR connected via Colorstream as well. The DVD changer works great! I like the option to have multiple DVDs in the device so that I can have multiple DVDs available to watch. The information provided on the display makes it easy to determine which DVD has been selected and to which DVD one is changing. The remote control and the on-device controls are easy to use, and I greatly appreciate the direct selection and DVD access options available on the device. The device is well-made and sturdy, unlike many devices available today. I am GREATLY pleased by this purchase — well worth the money and better-made than any related/similar device that I have owned!! I highly recommend the Onkyo 6-DVD player!! Read more
I mainly bought this player because I have an Onkyo receiver. I had to return the first player I received. I had the same problem as some of the other reviewers, it would not play dvds with minor scratches. I tested 4 rental dvds and only 1 would play. All 4 would play on another dvd player. I do not think this is a "high end" component issue but a "low end" quality control issue. The replacement player has been working fine so far with cds and rental dvds. I have also tried dvds with jpeg pictures. It requires the right file size and using the hd jpeg setting. It seemed to work best with photos that were 4x6 size at 150 dpi. The full size (2 to 3 megs) photos were displayed smaller, possibly compressed to fit the screen size. I would say if you already have an Onkyo receiver, this is worth considering. Try a few rental dvds in it to see if it is working correctly. If not, return it for another one, Amazon makes this a pretty easy process. Read more
I spent a great deal of time investigating before purchasing this player and must admit I was still somewhat leery since I wasn't familiar with the brand. Turns out I am certainly happy I went through with it! It's been two years now, and it still works as beautifully as the day I bought it. It gets constant use and I have never had a single problem with it. Considering how most things are made these days, seems that for once I got the brass ring! I love the fact that I can load six DVD's at a time - a really nice feature that comes in so handy on my movie marathon days! The disc's change smoothly, and I am very pleased with both sound & picture quality. Given the length of time I've had it, the more than reasonable price and the heavy use its been put through, I feel it's safe to say that this is a quality product. Read more
As previously posted, this unit will NOT play rental (or even mildly scratched) DVDs. Which is a problem because a number of our DVDs are kids movies and they get scratched with repeadted use. All the problematic DVDs play perfectly fine on a cheapo ($20) DVD player but this "high-end" unit is too much of a prima donna for these DVDs. ---------See Update Below January 2010 UPDATE: Took the unit to an authorized repair shop and they honored the warranty (I originally purchased it from Amazon). After the repair, the unit is AMAZING! No problems whatsoever and the sound and picture quality is far superior to cheapo DVD players! Repair center said some parts with laser, etc. tend to come loose with shipping and handling from online retailers. Took them a week to get the required parts and repair... all for free and worth the wait! If you're having problems with this unit definitely try taking it to an authorized repair shop! Would give it 5 stars if it came this way out of the box! Read more
I purchased my dvd player in March 2011. It worked great until it quit working at the end of Dec. 2011. I sent it in for repair on January 9,2012. It's February 29,2012 they say it's still waiting for parts. I have no idea, nor does the authorize repair company when I will hget it back. very disappionted!! Read more
I bought 2 of these units for many solid reasons, the main ones being that I have many physical disabilities so handling disks isn't my favorite so I have my caregiver load new disks everyday, the other main reason is that multi-disk DVD players are only made by 1 or 2 companies anymore and there's no hint of anyone making multi-disk Blu-Ray players anytime soon. Well my experience with these units is this, I really like the remote that comes with it and the fact that you can go forwards or backwards on your disk selections and the disks load quickly unlike my Sony units. Well the first unit worked great for 4 months until it started a thing where it would pop the disks out of their positions anytime the tray was rotated until there were no disks playable. So our next move was to take the other new player out of it's box and try it and this one did nothing but display patterns , lines ect. ect. on the screen. So now they're both out of warranty and in the shop being looked at, my first Onkyo products and possibly my last. One last note about this unit is about that really bright blue light above the disk tray, don't they know people usually watch tv in darkened rooms? If that light was about seeing the disks in the tray why couldn't they put the light on the inside of the player? We fixed that issue with a piece of electrical tape carefully placed over it so the tray would still open. RM Read more
