I usually get my cream directly delivered by the farmer but recently I had to buy it at the Supermarket. What I found out it's that all brands of cream contain additives or preservatives, "Organic Valley" heavy whipping included. This organic-labelled product contains carrageenan, a food additive that is under study because of its inflammatory and cancer-related effects. Europe prohibits the use of carrageenan in infant formula, organic or otherwise, for precautionary reasons. FDA should do the same. Plus, additives and preservatives affect the flavor of the cream. They no longer sell (at least here in NC) the pasteurized Heavy whipping cream, only the Ultra pasteurized heavy whipping cream. The original had NO additives, the Ultra has a gum to preserve freshness. Pure garbage. Read more

Having spoken to organic farmers who work with Organic Valley...they seem like a good company. I like their product except for one very important thing...why can't organic whipping cream JUST BE ORGANIC WHIPPING CREAM...and nothing else...no additives! Unfortunately, it is not JUST organic cream...but rather also includes carrageenan.
