Some Extra Ports And Storage

As others have noted, the SSD in this unit isn't super fast, but it makes a great spot for backups or other types of media that you don't need to be copying quickly to a removable drive. I find it's a good place to keep Desktop images and old music files. The port bus itself is much faster, so copying from your MacHD to a thumb drive will be faster than the speed limit of the ssd. It's a cool design that it can just sit on top of your Mini and not add more stuff to your desk. It's super easy to use, just plug it in to USB port on computer. It doesn't seem to contribute too much to the computer's heat level, though you might consider that before you do long CPU intensive tasks. It's well made of durable plastic in a bright semi gloss silver like the Mac mini. Read more

Perfect as a PC docking station with extra SSD storage

I bought this to use with my desktop PC, and it’s been a great addition. The build is sturdy, and while it’s styled to match a Mac mini, it fits right in on a PC setup too. I’m using it as both a docking station and an extra 1TB SSD, and it delivers on both fronts. The extra ports are a big help — USB-A, USB-C, audio jacks, and card readers all in one place — so I don’t have to keep reaching around the back of my tower. Transfer speeds are solid, and the SSD storage has been reliable for games, files, and backups. Setup was plug and play with my PC, and the included cables made it simple to get running. For the price, it’s a smart way to expand both storage and connectivity without cluttering the desk with multiple external drives. Read more

Seems to be a well made product.

Have only used it a little so I'm learning what its capabilities are. I did think it was quite a bargain compared to buying a hub without any storage and adding it later. The 1TB is plenty for my usage. It was advertised as plug and play, which apparently has a different meaning for me. I did have to search out a few things to get it going, after which, all seems well. Read more

Works on more than Mac Mini

This was listed as being for the Mac Mini M4 but it can be used with most anything. I have a mini pc with Windows 11 and it works with that. The documentation that came with it says it works with Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android. It comes with two USB C cables that appear to be of high quality. One is quite short, the other one is a more typical length. To get this running I used the longer cable as the data transfer cable as it has a USB A connection on one end and plugged that end into a USB3 port on the PC. I had to provide another similar cable to provide power because my PC does not have any USB C ports on it. After hooking everything up, Windows recognized the new disk and I formatted it. I then copied about 20MB of files to the new disk and it worked quickly and without errors. From reading the included documentation, it appears this has a fan but it is so quiet you wouldn't know it. This comes with a 3 year warranty which makes this a good value. Read more

Form factor is perfect for Mac mini, and works on all Apple computers

So far, I used this on both my Mac mini and my MacBook Pro, and features work on both, I get the storage and the "docking station" features without issue. The form factor fits right on top of the Mac mini and does not cause any overheating or other issues with the Mac mini below it (as pictured). I did not try placing it the other way, where the Mac mini sits on top, but I don't imagine it would be an issue. The storage is reliable, I can transfer large files back and forth without disconnection and other problems. All the devices connected through it maintains its connection and responsiveness as well. Abysmal performance beware

Unacceptably slow performance. I read that this disk was slow but it's significantly slower than the mac mini ssd baseline performance. Going right back. Read more

So fast you might just get a speeding ticket for copying files.

The first thing that struck me was its sleek design. It's a dead ringer for my M4, which is nice -- less visual clutter on my already-cluttered desk. It's like they made this thing specifically to complement my minimalist (or maybe more "industrial spartan") aesthetic. It appears to be real aluminum, not some crappy painted plastic. My wife approves, which is always a plus. Now, let's talk about how my relationship with instructions is... complicated. I'm allergic to instructions. Like seriously horrible allergies, not even psuedoephedrine and an epi pen are going to save me from the convulsions, neck snapping, and crippling pain. So it was wonderful to see that this connected up in a jiffy to the M4. Plug. Connected. Didn't even have to load Disk Utility or something. It just shows up in the sidebar of Finder as an external drive. And then just for sugars and giggles, I tried plugging it into my macbook pro, and then even a mac mini we use as a media center behind the TV. It's so old that it can't even upgrade MacOS anymore. I'm pretty sure it's on MacOS Jurassic. Yes, that old. Just make sure you use the right cables. The first I had grabbed (like a total international supervillain genius) was already connected to my M4, and when it didn't do anything getting plugged in, I scratched my head... then remembered that cable is power only. Oops. Luckily, this comes with two cables. The first is a super tiny USB-C to USB-C. Like 3 or 4 inches at max, counting the plugs. It's just intended to connect the device directly to your box, no extra dangle. Nice touch. It also includes a USB-C to USB-C+A cable, which is super nice. The speed is nice. Note that it's 5 gigaBITS per second, not gigaBYTES per second. This means ~625 megabytes per second. Pretty sure that means it's USB 3.2gen1. Only caveat... Price check around because there are tons of these little docking stations, even with internal storage. Also, weigh how much you really want the stackability. If you don't care about stackability, there are other external drives and NAS out there around the $150-300 price point with 10+ terabytes (or more) with the same transfer speeds. So you're REALLY trading off aesthetic vs price and storage here. Read more
