This is a nice outdoors-friendly plasma lighter. I love that it has the cap. First of all, it's a great safety feature. But also, it helps protect the ignitor part from the rain and elements. Comes with a lanyard too as well as a little clip that locks down the lid when closed. Puts out a nice little consistent plasma arc that you can use to start a fire. The only inconvenience to using a plasma lighter such as this is that the flame does not protrude out and away from the source. So what that means is that you have to hold the lighter at the point of arc practically in or on the tinder very closely. There is no reach beyond that point. So obviously that also means that you shouldn't be using this in conjunction with lighter fluid. (Which, yuk, I prefer not to use anyway.) Just be aware of this small limitiation. Not really a big deal but I can see that it could be an issue depending on the situation. The price point is about right. In general, I like this product. Great job and 5 stars. A lighter that you don't need anything but electricity to refill is pretty nice; you can refill it from a solar panel charger instead of having to find butane. It works well enough; it'll light paper quickly so you can use it as a firestarter very easily. The gap between the pins where the arcs travel is pretty small so it's a little bit more difficult to light, say, a cig with it, but it works just fine. When my kids and I go hiking, camping, etc. - I carry a waterproof USB battery bank, as does each kid, for emergencies - to ensure that we can run our phones, HAM and GMRS radios, etc. So, a lighter that I can charge from those, if necessary, was attractive. It certainly does not disappoint. The geometry really isn't ideal for starting a campfire - it's designed more for candles and cigarettes, that sort of thing that you can get in between those posts - but that's easy enough to workaround. So yeah - great addition for starting a campfire, grill, or stove in a pinch without butane, and without having to resort to ferrocerum rods or such. I really liked it comes in a waterproof case so you don't have to worry about it when hiking. I also like it creates two arcs which makes it easier to light things instead of just one that can easily be blocked. I feel battery life is a little bit short, and would prefer it to use USB-C over MicroUSB charger which is more delicate and being retired. It would also be nice to have a way to block the charging port to avoid it getting wet or dirty when using it. Read more
This lighter is well made, lightweight and in a rugged casing for outdoor use, immune to wind and high humidity. The X pattern of discharge lasts for as long as the button is pressed. It doesn’t have as much caloric power as a propane flame though, it takes about 5 seconds to set alight a candle. But there is no smoke or smell from the electric arc, and I guess carrying this around on the trail is much safer than a flammable liquid lighter. The lighter arrived almost completely discharged. It uses a micro-USB port for charging, and it did fully charge in just over an hour. But the battery has really low capacity, the leaflet inside the box states it has 220 mAh and that is can be recharged more than 300 times. One charge seems to last for about twenty uses on lighting candles, so having this handy for starting a campfire three times a day makes it worth for its resilience, the advantages outweigh the limitations. Since it is rechargeable, a power bank or solar panel may add extra life to this on the trail. Love it but uses micro USB and not USB C. I don't have anything that still uses the old micro USB and trying to keep this around will be challenging since I need to carry a specific cable for this lighter. Makes a strong crossed plasma beam that light paper, fuel tabs, etc really well. Holds enough charge for many uses and holds the charge a long time (about a month so far) so youwon't have to be charging it all the time. The product page says it is waterproof, but I wouldn't submerge it, seems risky as the seal is not like other real waterproof equipment I have. Also, the product page says something about a built-in LED flashlight, which the model I got doesn't have. Still, it's perfect for my bug out bag and won't break the bank. Read more
