The time has come for me to replace my vintage DVD players with HDMI-equipped units for my two Samsung "smart" TVs. After a thorough review of all comments for this (and other) DVD players I settled on Panasonic over the competitors. I did have trepidation though for the negative reviews found were most convincing regarding Panasonic in general. I know that nothing (or no one) stays the same and as the decades move along, the familiar brand of "then" may not measure up to the expectations of "today." I decided to give Panasonic DVD-S700 a try (again). Thus far, after only a few satisfactory "plays" from my DVD library, I am pleased. My rating of "4" will be upgraded as time passes with more successful "plays," which I hope is the case. Set-up was a piece of cake (so to speak) and at least with my Samsung TV, once I turn on my player with an inserted DVD it immediately shows up on my screen - which "beats the hell out of" the way things once were. I am pleased with my purchase and recommend it for those who continue using DVDs for movies from their respective collections. Read more
