Great Value

I'm very happy with this purchase. I rebelled against buying a dvd player for a couple years, which left me fiddling with hdmi cords that didn't always work properly with my laptop, so I finally caved in. All I wanted was a basic dvd player that worked, even if I could find it on craigslist. No such luck on craigslist because after doing ample research on amazon, this one was still cheaper than all the dvd players I saw on CL (and was guaranteed to work out of the box). I bought it back in Nov 2015, so I've got a solid 2 months worth of use since it's purchase, and there have been no problems whatsoever. I'm really confused about a review I read stating that this dvd player has bad memory and can't pick up where you left off if you turn it off?? Not true. I have put discs that were played weeks ago into the player and it picks up where I last left off. Another feature I really like is that if it sits idle for too long (haven't timed it to know specifically how long, but definitely enough time), it will turn off automatically. Sometimes I'll pause a movie and go change laundry or make dinner and I'll forget I had it on. Being an eco-conscious individual (though apparently not when I leave my tv on and walk away), I appreciate the back-up support of the automatic turn off :) All in all, I'm happy with the product and I'd recommend it to others looking for a basic dvd player. UPDATE DECEMBER 2018: Two things: first, I purchased a second one for my airbnb (@honeoyebungalow) in January 2017 and that has also been working really well. Second, I am still happily using my original DVD player. It was an excellent purchase and I have not had a single issue. To comment further on the memory note above - if a disc is left in, it recalls where you left off. If you switch discs and then go back to one, it will not recall where you left off. My opinion, no big deal, I have survived happily for over 3 years Read more

This is the one you've been looking for!

Wonderful! We wanted a simple unit that would play CDs. We looked at dozens of very sad reviews and finally settled on a Samsung unit because its reviews were not as bad as most of them. Sad state of affairs to be left with that option, but that seems to be the new normal. Well, it arrived, long story short, it was junk, quit in three days and we returned it. We found this Panasonic quite be accident. It had good reviews and it's perfect for us. Very simple controls, solid performance, and unlike most of the ones on which I read reviews for, this one is absolutely silent. You can barely hear the disc start to spin up and once going, it is silent. It loads quickly and if I could give it six stars, I would. Way to go, Panasonic! Read more

No HDMI, no full screen picture

CustomerOctober 31, 2017✓ Verified purchase

This does NOT have HDMI connection, despite some reviewers saying it does. It connects through the red, yellow, and white AV cords (included). Even after changing the setting to 16:9 full screen, it does not cover my entire 55” TV; there are 6” vertical black bars on either side of the picture. This player was super quick and easy to setup, but I’ll likely send it back due to the lack of full screen. If you want a very simple player, it will do the trick. Read more

CD Player

SylsNovember 17, 2014✓ Verified purchase

Bought this unit to use strictly as a CD player. It takes up a lot less space than the full-sized home audio CD players that I have always used before. And it seems to sound just as good. In fact, on some of my classical music I'm hearing details that I never heard before. Sounds good with jazz and 60's drug music too. I do have a couple of complaints. When you put in a CD and hit the close button the CD begins playing automatically without hitting the start button. So if you don't want it to play it immediately you have to leave the CD tray open or hit the power off button. Hitting the pause button will not delay the start because the pause function only works when the CD is playing, not when you first put in a CD and close the tray. Either the unit is designed to work in this goofy way or I am too dense to figure out how to make it work like a regular CD player. Second, for those of us who don't have it hooked up to a TV or other video device, it would be nice if there was a small display on the front of the unit showing what track is playing. And the only controls on the unit itself are open/close, start/pause, and power on/off. It would sure be handy if there were up/down buttons to change the track. The track change function is only on the remote control. It doesn't matter much if you are only watching movies. But I'd like to have it on the front of the unit for music CD's. I'd prefer not to have a remote at all. So if it gets lost or goes bad I'll just throw this unit in the garbage and find a DVD player that has all the necessary controls on the front of the unit. Maybe I should have got the Sony. Read more
