I forgot to replace my filter for a year and well I needed a replacement. This looked exactly like the filter I used for last time so I bought it. Installed it and it working as expected. No problems as Its the correct size. Will buy again in 6 months. This time not forgetting to replace it for a year. Changing a water filter sucks when you have no water to clean the housing. Lesson Learned and will have a bucket of water for cleaning. Also not replacing during a freezing winter can help also. Read more

The filter worked very well. The city did some water pipe repairs locally and mud came down the line. The filter was replaced by a plumber after only 3 days. A simple white filter was covered with dirt. The water quality in the house remained excellent. It saved a lot of money replacing fixtures etc. Read more

Appears to have made a difference

Maybe coincidence but I’m writing because it may help someone, I sure didn’t know how to deal with it. We have a rain catchment system here in New Mexico that feeds the house supplementing public water. We also had what we used to call a 100 year storm (probably becoming normal now) that flooded everything. We presume it overran the tank with groundwater First I filled the dog’s bowl and it was brownish and the toilet also was filling with sediment so I changed the overdue filters. What happened next was the strangest thing I’ve seen and no one I’ve found can explain it. Perhaps a chemist reading here might explain. The water came out of the tap looking exactly like dishwater, soapy as if full of detergent. It poured into a pitcher with a head on it that you could scoop out by hand (photo). Eventually it came out looking more like milk. I let some sit for a couple of days (glass in background) thinking it must be air bubbles, but after two days it had indeed settled a bit but remained a foggy gray. No odor or anything but it looked weird. We had a 25 micron paper filter ahed of the carbon 10 micron filter and started wondering if the paper filter was adequate. I shut off the rain water until this new filter arrived. It may be coincidence or time, all I know is that since I swapped in this filter and turned the rain water back on the water has been clear. I was concerned about flow dropping from a 25 to a 5 micron filter but there’s been no perceptible change. FYI Read more

1st step

Thia filter is fantastic. It starts at 50 micron and closer to the center narrows to 5 or 1 micron depending on the version. It has to be flushed for 10 minutes post installation. But you can actually see the particulate size in your water depending on where the dark rings are when looking at the filter on its access. This cannot be cleaned since it's catching different particulates within the matrix bases in their sizes. If you need to clean the outside, you need a larger filter (100 or 75 micron) before this one. It's all about a series of filters stepping down micron filtration and keeping the more expensive carbon /other media downstream so you can prolong their lives. When people ask how long they last, that depends on how much water you are filtering and how much crap is in your water. This is the best particulate filter type. Pleated filters only do one size.the beauty of this one is that you get 50 down to 5 in one unit. I replace these every few months in my home filter system. I use the 50 down to 5 since the 1 micron becomes too restricted too fast. Read more
