Needed to fit in my backpack, be light weight and hold my phone stable for video and time-lapse landscape photography and be affordable. FINALLY, I found my favorite tripod. I LOVE this tripod! The leg-lock design is brilliant! One suggestion. The hinge point for the cell phone looks to be a rivet. It's getting a little loose. If this could adjust like the pivot point below, that would be great. When taking videos of the sky or high clifs, the cell phone holder wants to fall backwards. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Lightweight (1.5 lb) yet durable and stable, this is an excellent choice for a travel tripod. The only minor issue is when using the phone holder in vertical orientation: the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera button is partially blocked. The media could not be loaded. Was looking for a lightweight but sturdy tripod for travels that would fit in a carry-on luggage. Picked the Perlegear tripod based on specs and price per Amazon's website. The tripod has aluminum legs with quick-release snaps (plastic) with a metal tightening ring and 1/8" screw to fit the included head. The 1/8" thread screw is too small to allow fitting of other tripod heads, other than the included one. The included head is made of plastic or polycarbonate with a removable camera mount plate (not Arca-Swiss compatible) that has a 1/4" screw. The 1/4" screw is standard and attaches to the bottom of my mirrorless camera. There is no storage case included with this tripod. The weight of the tripod is 1.23 pounds, with the head weighting in at 0.36 pounds, total weight of unit is 1.59 pounds. The length of the tripod without the head is 17.5" and would easy fit in a carry-on. The lever on the head unfolds into a support for a smart phone. The tripod legs were easy to extend and lock-in-place. The unit as a whole was sturdy and supported a Nikon Z8 body with a 24-120z lens (total weight of 4 pounds). The center post of the tripod can extend 12". The bottom of the post doesn't contain a hook or similar attachment to add a backpack or similar to add weight for tripod stabilization. The head is attached to the 1/8" screw on the tripod by rotating the unit clockwise. Tightening the knob on the head stops the clockwise and up/down rotation of the head. However, caution must be taken as once the knob is locked down, counter rotation of the head will loosen the head from the tripod. Overall, the Perlegear meets my criteria of lightweight/sturdy for travel, inexpensive and accommodates my camera gear as noted. For heavier gear or daily use, this would not be it. Rated 4-stars. Small, lightweight, Sturdy. It handles the weight of a dSLR and camcorder just fine. It's great for running to multiple setups because the light weight doesn't really contribute to fatigue. The head locks tightly into place. I haven't noticed the head drifting under the weight of the gear. Pretty solid piece of gear. I ended up buying a second one because I liked it so much. Read more
It's actually better than the price (~$20) indicates. It's small enough to fit in most suitcases and very light weight, which are the biggest benefits. The head is proprietary and non-replaceable as the thread that the head fits on is an odd size (maybe 1/8"). But, that being said, the head is OK. The stability is just fair - If you use a remote shutter release or delayed shutter, and it's not windy, it's OK. It has its own proprietary quick-release bracket that you attach to your camera with the standard tripod screw mount. It's not something you want to buy for everyday use, but for occasional use, it's OK. Read more
