This styptic powder is great! My Australian Labradoodle is covered with several types of bumps, warts and cysts that her doggy brother feels compelled to lick to help her heal. Consequently, she always has something somewhere open and bleeding. With an okay and instructions from the vet, I carefully clean the open sore, put an antibiotic ointment on it then, using a cotton swab, sprinkle a small amount of styptic powder over the whole thing. The stuff tastes icky so both dogs leave the wound alone, it dries up quickly, and life is good. NOTE: I only use this on minor wounds! The powder comes in a sturdy screw-top tin that I open carefully so it doesn't spill or blow around. It has a yellow-green color that looks weird on a black dog so I often loosely cover the wound with a human bandaid or a piece of guaze and tape that doesn't stick to dog fur. Sometimes I suck at clipping nails for my feisty chihuahua and will get a little into the quick and it will bleed. I put this on the bloody nail with a q-tip and it stops the bleeding. Read more

We have a few large dogs who love running around and rough housing. Many times, they get into areas they shouldn’t a get bad scratches or cuts. Having this clotting powder has been very helpful to stop some bleeding on abrasions my dogs come in with, so it works pretty well. My dog didn’t complain and let me apply it which was great. If you trim your dog’s nails at home, you need to have this on the table just in case. I accidentally nipped my dog’s quick because he jumped, and he started bleeding pretty heavily. I dipped a Q-tip in this powder, pressed it against the nail for about 10 seconds, and the bleeding stopped instantly. It doesn't seem to sting him at all. It’s a small jar, but it will probably last me five years because you only need a tiny bit per use. Read more
I have used cornstarch as an alternative when I don't have styptic powder on hand, but it does not work nearly as well. PetEyez Styptic Powder for Dogs stops the bleeding fast and there is enough product enclosed in the can to last for a long time. Read more
