I have a cat who has hyperthyroid issues, and he is always starving. Rather than waking up at all hours of the night to feed the beast, I purchased this electric feeder. I have the freezer pack ones, but they just don't stay cold. This one is great - I can open and close the portals on my phone, it reminds me to clean it, and tells me when they're open for the cat. I just need to convince my cat that it's food in there, not monsters. He's deaf, so he doesn't hear the bell. So far so good - just been 2 days. I bought 2 of these for my two cats. I have a trip coming up, so I had to ensure they have food when they need it. I liked the packaging, design, look and feel, and the workmanship. The rotating food plate is of high quality. I like the app as it tells you exactly how long your pet was at the feeder. The chime sound is not too loud, and they are intrigued by the chime, which draws them to the feeder. The food is kept pretty cold which was a pleasant surprise. It barely makes any sound; I was expecting a rumbling fan. The unit gets a bit warm near the vents. The power adapter also gets warm, which I assume is ok (safe) when we are not around to check. Really appreciate the raised edges on this product. I looked elsewhere for something similar and couldn’t find anything for the longest time so I was very excited to finally find this. My cat’s food station is set up on a small cabinet to keep it up from the dog so this has been great at keeping her crumbs contained and from falling behind the cabinet. This item works as described, but I am returning it for several reasons. First, because it requires a wifi connection, it will not work in my kitchen. The manual says it must be within 15 meters of the router with nothing blocking the space between the feeder and the router. My kitchen does not meet that requirement. Therefore I had to set up the feeder in my office. Second, the feeder is too high for my domestic cat to eat comfortably. When she first approached the feeder, she started eating, but then started putting her paws in the food to scoop it onto the floor where she could eat it more comfortably. I had to create a little platform in front of the feeder so that she could properly lower her head to feed. Third, although I know some people like the fact that you control this feeder through an app, I don't like that at all. The app, while well designed, is sluggish. That is, you have to wait a couple of seconds after each key touch. Annoying, but not a big deal. But anyone in the family that wants to open the feeder manually has to have the app on their phone. One morning I got up early to see if the feeder was open at the programmed time. It was not (I don't know why). I had to find my phone, my glasses, open the app, click a few buttons, then press the Open Now button. I would prefer the device to be self contained, and not require the phone to operate. On the plus side, it is well made and easy to clean. However I am going to buy a feeder that is lower in height, self contained and does not require wifi or a phone app. I'm giving this a 4 rather than lower because what I consider to be disadvantages others may find desirable. if you think it will stand up to everyday use it won't. If you think it will cool your cat's food even for a long trip, it might not. We've had a terrible time with the fridge units just stopping working. I am on my third replacement and honestly just don't think they are well made. When you need the replacement this is tough too because they make you send them photos of the fan working or not working (take apart the machine), photos of the temperature readings, etc. In my case they sent me a broken unit to replace the broken unit, which I only realized after using it for 4-5 days.
