If you are looking for budget weights and do not want to pay for tungsten, these are a great option for your kid’s pinewood derby car, especially if you have more than one car to build. For a typical wedge shaped car you usually need about 3.5 ounces of additional weight to get close to the 5 ounce limit. Since this kit comes in at over 9 ounces total, it is a solid value and gives you plenty to share between builds. All you need is a 3/8 drill bit. Drill your holes, then press the weights in. You will need to use more of these compared to tungsten because they are less dense, but they are much easier to work with. On race day, if you find yourself slightly over the official 5 ounce limit, you can simply file a little material off to dial it in. That would be nearly impossible with tungsten. I used these weights to adjust the weight of two pinewood derby cars, and still had weights leftover. A 3/8 drill bit worked to make a hole that the weights fit snuggly in, and the variety of lengths of weight meant I could mix & match the weights until I got the total weight up to 5 oz. Obviously weight is weight, however the lack of packaging insulation caused the plastic weight holder to break either during packaging or delivery. If your just looking for the weights great buy, but if you are going to use the plastic case for storage better look elsewhere. Read more

These are cheap steel weights for kids to use on their pinewood derby cars. I got these for the pinewood derby workshop for our pack for the kids who needed weights and they worked well. They are not premium weights but are cheaper than tungsten putty and a lot safer than lead. They are smooth and can be dropped in a drilled hole and covered with plastic wood or white glue. I would recommend still having some tu8ngsten putty on hand at weigh-in to micro-adjust your car's weight to exactly 5 ounces. These are a great value and look fantastic! Not as heavy as tungsten, but for so much less money, it’s hard to see why I would want to go back! These function exactly the same: drill the correct size hole, add a dab of glue and press them in. The various sizes add a lot of adjustability and because weight needs to be in juts the right place to be competitive, it’s critical to have that kind of variety on hand! Read more
