Getting Back to my Roots

I was a skater in the mid-to-late 1970's, first riding a Black Knight with steel wheels, then hard, red wheels that were like rocks. Then I got a plastic GT skateboard, a blue one, then a wider GT, another plastic board. My brother and I grew up reading Skateboarder magazine, skated the local levees (drainage ditches) and the streets. There weren't many skateparks then, and suddenly they started building them all over California, but they were all pay-to-ride. Nowadays, the year 2025, there are public skateparks in a lot of cities, all free. I'm 64 now. I stopped because I went to college, worked and never really looked back. That was not good. You see guys my age still riding pools and ramps. I totally forgot how to ride. My balance isn't what it used to be. That's all due to not using it. I'm getting back now, and bought this board. I remember Steve Caballero. That's why I bought this one. And I could afford it. Tell you, this one is light compared to what we had when the late 1980's and early '90's arrived and board became much wider. It's good, though. I think the tech is way better today. I would have liked a Dogtown deck and Trackers and Sims Pure Juice, but for a hundred bucks, I couldn't pass this one up. Gonna slowly work back up, 'cause all i have now is muscle memory. I love this board and I recommend it for street. Read more
