RE: Powercolor Hellhound 9070 xt There was no question on the card I wanted but in the beginning that didn't seem possible, so I put my expectations of a hellhound aside and looked at what else was out there, the pulse seemed like it would be available, but not so much in the US. I decided to wait for a hellhound opportunity and I’m so glad I did, one became available on Amazon at $20.00 over MSRP and I jumped on it. I picked the hellhound because it’s a great example of engineering at its best (this card is replacing a hellhound 7900 GRE which ultimately sold me on this design). The weight (2.6 lbs., no additional support required), dimensions (uses 2.5 slots and fits most midsize cases), great thermals, quiet, factory OC and dual 8 pin power connectors are the properties I was hoping to find, and again hellhound didn’t disappoint. I use a custom fan setting (see picture) which keeps the memory junction temps (hot spot) at 80-84c on full load and the GPU temps generally stay in the low fifties. The games I generally play on this machine are; Doom Eternal, Doom the Dark Ages, Halo Infinite and Avatar FOP. With the 9070 xt GPU set at stock (No OC) I experienced the following performance: (Game settings are the same used by the 7900 GRE for comparison purposes) Doom Eternal --19% increase over the 7900 GRE (8% OC) Halo Infinite -- 30% increase over the 7900 GRE (8% OC) Avatar FOP -- 29% increase over the 7900 GRE (8% OC) Doom the Dark Ages -- 110 FPS (TAA native) QHD all settings Ultra-Nightmare (new game not played with the 7900 GRE) Furmark2 Bench (open GL, QHD) -- 11% increase over the 7900 GRE (8% OC) Furmark2 Bench (open GL, QHD) -- 20% increase over the 7900 GRE (stock) 3dMark Time Spy -- 20% increase over the 7900 GRE (8% OC) (no data on the 7900 GRE (stock) using Time Spy) I highly recommend the hellhound 9070 xt for anyone looking for an upper midrange card and wants the best design and quality available: *Uses only 2.5 slots and dimensions work for most midsize cases - Check *Weights only 2.6 lbs., no additional support needed – Check *Great thermals, default settings are ok but using a custom fan setting keeps this card extra cool (see picture) – Check *Factory OC, perfect for stock or overclocking – Check *Quiet, I can't hear the fans over the CPU cooler and has zero coil whine – Check *Dual 8 pin power connecters, no 12-pin cable to worry about - Check Read more
Sleek looking with the cnc black back plate, fans run quiet and I haven’t seen temps above 60c in all of the 1440p scenarios so far. Enjoying the purchase especially at the price point it’s at right now. I know people have reported driver issues but have had none of that either. Read more
The card runs surprisingly cool at with full GPU utilization around 50-64 C. Honestly I thought the frame generation would show some input latency but I have not noticed any at all, not even in Cyberpunk 2077 max settings with path tracing of all things. The build quality is solid, I don't think a GPU anti-sag bracket is necessary. The graphics look great on the games I play such as Cyberpunk, Hunt showdown, Elden ring and Skyrim with mods. Read more
This card is a beast! I upgraded from a 6700xt and almost tripled my fps! The led isn't RGB but gives off a nice bright blue. Easy to install, no need for the 12v melting connector. Best upgrade I've made so far with the highest frame increase per dollar I've seen from a GPU. It's still AMD so driver functionality isn't perfect, but better than I'm used to so that is improving as well. UPDATE: I recently upgraded to a 5070 TI because I was experiencing issues with AMD on select games. Sadly, Nvidia's technology still dominates AMD, especially with DLSS 4.5 on the horizon. I think Team Red is still amazing, but with recent price jumps, this card is now close to what I paid for my RTX, so it was a no-brainer for me. I know AMD will work out some of the bugs for the games I play but stability with Nvidia has been easy to work with. I picked up the PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB GDDR6 and can honestly say this GPU has been perfect for my needs. For a game like Star Citizen, which is known for being poorly optimized and extremely demanding, this card handles it very well with smooth gameplay and no major performance issues. Built on AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture with 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, this card has more than enough power for modern gaming. The large memory buffer helps significantly in demanding titles, especially ones like Star Citizen that rely heavily on VRAM. It also supports current AMD features like FreeSync, Radeon Anti-Lag, and FSR upscaling, which help maintain smooth frame rates without sacrificing too much visual quality. In general gaming performance, the RX 9070 XT performs extremely well at 1440p, averaging around 110–120 FPS in many modern titles at high to ultra settings. At 4K, it still delivers very playable frame rates, especially when using upscaling features. Coming from a 7900 XTX, I built a PC that is technically less powerful overall, yet this GPU is holding up perfectly and meeting all my expectations. The AI features help do a lot of the heavy lifting without even noticing, and the less power draw, much needed. In Star Citizen, performance varies depending on location and server load, but the card stays smooth even in busy areas and handles space flight, ground combat, and city environments without major dips. Thermals on the Hellhound are excellent. Under heavy gaming loads, GPU temperatures typically stay around 60°C, with hotspot temperatures well controlled. The cooling solution is quiet and efficient, making long gaming sessions comfortable without excessive fan noise or heat buildup inside the case. I was in the market for a 9070 xt and was very happy to see this go on sale around Black Friday for not much above 9070 xt MSRP as this is not Power Color's base model. While a pretty big GPU, it's quiet, sleek, and very powerful. Just make sure you have the power supply and cables to support it, as they recommend at least a 800 watt PSU and you need to run two separate power cables, not just a single with two ends. As I was upgrading from a Radeon, installation was simple as the software figured out the change and updated itself to reflect the new card. Read more
