Exactly what I needed

This product is exactly what I needed. I had purchased the Sabrent 10-port hub earlier in the year. I like this one a lot better, even though it's a little bit bigger. For reference, my setup doesn't use that much bandwidth. I rarely connect external hard drives or web cams. I'm a software engineer by day, and on rare occasion when the wife is out I'll get to throw down on battle.net. I do have multiple keyboards, a mouse, and a high quality microphone. The hub also helps me more easily switch all of my devices back and forth between my work computer and personal computer. Pros: - USB 3 ports - It plugs into the wall instead of drawing additional power from your computer. - The buttons to enable a port are well lit. It's easier to see which ones are enabled vs disabled than with the Sabrent hub. They also take a little more force to push down and click than with the Sabrent hub, and it's less likely to that you'll accidentally click them. - The charging ports have a different color and are clearly marked. - This product does exactly what it says. Cons: - This product is noticeably larger and takes up more desk space than the Sabrent hub. - I'll never need or use 4 charging ports. My phone and other gadgets almost all support wireless charging these days, and I have the wireless chargers plugged directly into the power strip. I'm glad that there's charging ports readily available on my desk if I ever need them though, but I personally don't really use them. - I eventually solved this, but initially I was extremely frustrated with devices randomly disconnecting on me. I have a note about this below in case this applies to any of you. Notes: At first some of my devices would constantly disconnect and stop working. I would have to turn the switch for that port off and on again to get them working again. This was incredibly annoying, especially because it was happening with my mouse and keyboard while I was using them. I considered sending this product back and giving it a one star review. This happened with the Sabrent hub as well. I was eventually able to fix the issue though, so I'm documenting my fix here for others: the problem in my case was actually Razer's crappy software, as I'm using both a Razer keyboard and mouse. This wasn't obvious at first because their devices work perfectly when plugged in directly to the computer. The issue only occurred when those devices were plugged into the hubs. First, go into device manager and go through all USB devices & controllers to ensure you uncheck the boxes that say "Allow this computer to turn this device off". Second, be sure to disable USB selective suspend (you can Google how to do this on your own). Third, and this one is most important, press your Window key and type Services. Then stop and disable these two services: Razer Game Manager and Razer Chroma SDK Server. You can leave Razer Central Service and Razer Chroma DK Service running. Afterwards this product worked like a charm and I haven't experienced any issues since then. Cheers! I think you'll be incredibly pleased with this product. Read more

really good as an all in one hub

this is my first review on amazon so hopefully this helps yall out. i'll try to go as in depth as possible. Using this in tandem with a usb c 3.0 to usb a 3.0 adapter on a 2019 Macbook Pro. Solid build. I've had several other usb 3.0 hubs that broke on me, but this one seems like it will hold up well to time. Cables are appropriately long and feel relatively solid. I do creative media (audio video editing/producing) on a regular basis, so I ran speed tests using a samsung usb 3.0 flash drive, and Blackmagic Design Disk speed test software found that there IS a slight latency, but it's unavoidable and not really the hub's fault as it comes from adding an extra device between your computer and your device. But the latency was extremely negligible and considering that I had multiple other things plugged into it, such as my keyboard, mouse, and webcam, I'd say this hub performs very well. I also ran Amperage analysis software from an android phone and results were pretty good. It isnt going to charge my phone faster than a dedicated "fast charging" 3amp brick, but it actually did end up performing better than the standard 1.2amp charger brick which was surprising. Regarding the size of this thing, it is fairly bulky, so I wouldn't take it traveling, especially when power outlet access is limited, as it requires external power. But I think I will start taking it to recording sessions with a band I've been working with, where I need lots of usb ports and performance is important. So this thing will be really really good for using at home where you need lots of ports and if you prioritize external power, but not really good for use on the go. That's not to say this is bad for space management however. Previously, I was using two separate usb 3.0 hubs that had 4 ports on each, and after replacing both of them with this one, I actually have more room on my workstation. Now for the "issues" I found with the hub. firstly, when nothing is plugged into the hub, and all the switches are turned off, there is a slight high pitched noise that comes from the ac transformer plug (this is common with transformers without some sort of coating on the transformer coil). Now this isn't a big issue because I had to put my ear like a foot and a half away from it to hear it (and I have very sensitive ears), and also, I will always have stuff plugged in to the hub and I'll constantly be using it, so the noise won't exist 99.9% of the time. The second "issue" I have is that the switches on the hub aren't total disconnects. Theyre wired so that the power supply is cut for that specific usb port, and normally that will disconnect whatever device is plugged in. But in the case of devices that are already externally powered, the switch wont disconnect it (i noticed this when I tested my multitrack recording studio mixer, which is externally powered). But then again, this isn't necessarily a downside, as it doesn't diminish the functionality of my equipment, and this only applies to devices with external power which is not too common. So overall, this is a very good usb hub. The 4 chargers are useful for when I want to charge my phone without connecting it to my laptop, and the 7 usb ports all work at good speeds, especially for a usb hub with this many ports. It seems pretty sturdy so I expect to use this for a long time. If it does fail on me then I'll be sure to update the review but I really don't expect that to happen, considering how solid it feels. Would definitely recommend this to heavy users that need a lot of power and lots of usb ports. It's a good all in one solution. My setup: usb ports-Mechanical keyboard, mouse, camera, backup hard drive, midi piano keyboard, Audio Interface charging ports- Camera power supply, laptop cooling fan, phone charger Read more

🔌⚡️ VERY sensitive to power fluctuations ⚡️ 🔌

I’ve had this USB hub for four years and it’s been wonderful. I’ve loved it. It seemed to be built well. Light weight. The number of ports have been more than what I have needed at any given time. It’s helped greatly with cord management and has a great space saving footprint. It’s worked without issue until today. Unfortunately, during a recent power outage, the power blinked on and off several times, and even though the USB hub was connected to a power strip, along with several other sensitive devices like a 4k monitor, laptop and printer, it was the only device that fried. I wouldn’t be so critical had a more complex/ sensitive device fried too but this is the only one. I can’t say that I would recommend against this hub. It’s great. But if you have any power grid instability, prone to outages during storms or any other circumstance that would cause power to “blink”, I would recommend another device. A surge protector won’t be able to save it. It’s s far too sensitive for my needs so I’ll have to find another replacement. Otherwise, it would have been a great value had it survived this storm.
