My old plastic ice trays were starting to crack and so I got a couple new ones that just did want to release the ice, threw those out. I looked here at other plastic ones but didn’t see many and had no way of knowing how easy they were to use. I’ve tried silicone before and those left the ice tasting bad. So, I got these, the old fashioned style. They’re very easy to use, make good ice, are well made and I think worth spending a little more as they’ll probably last forever. No smell, easy to get the ice out, no nasty taste. Stacking requires some care. It comes with little tongs which would be better if they had teeth to grab onto the ice better but, yes, we should go back to these old fashioned better ice trays. Read more

These work well, no plastic! The ice cubes are larger than your typical plastic tray. Unlike most trays you can't remove just a few cubes and refill the empty cube spots. With this you use the handle to release all the cubes at once. It's tricky to keep the metal cube spacers within the tray after releasing the cubes, you often need to take the spacer bar assembly out and put it somewhere until all the cubes are gone and it's ready to refill. You could toss the cubes into a ice bin and refill the tray as an option. These also don't stack as the cube spacers and the handle stick out on top. Like the ice tray but the tongs that come with it to grab the ice cubes are impossible to use. They don't hold the ice. Perhaps some with some type of teeth to hold onto the ice would be good. The ice just slips out of the tongs. Read more
